OT: MLB potentially dropping Banhammer on PED users conected with Tony Bosch
I was just on ESPN and saw and read this article. Wow. I was hoping that there were not any Tigers mentioned in the report, but supposedly Jhonny Peralta is on the list, as well as Ryan Braun and A-Rod. I am interested to see if anything will come from this.

Why single just one guy (Braun) out when there is a pile of players involved here?
Probably because Braun has already been accused of PED use, and basically said something must have been wrong with the testing, because he is Mother Theresa.
IIRC, he failed a test but said test was thrown out because the person responsible for the sample had stored it in his personal fridge overnight. So, he's been more than accused.
I would cast him as Dobby from the :43 - :48 mark. Do 'roids make your eyes get bigger?
What exactly would you expect him to say? "I did PED's, please suspend me for 50 games"?
How about the truth?
Nobody forced him to have an organized press conference. Are you drunk?
A big fan of dishonesty, are ya David?
He is.
He is an Ohio State fan.
Burn him.
I think I get what you were saying in the first post, but this one makes me think I misunderstood you. I can understand someone asking "why would you single him out when there are dozens more". I could even understand if you continued the debate after the poster above said "because he lied" because we all know everyone of them have lied about it.
What I can't understand is this post asking what normal people would expect out of athletes that get 100% of their payment off the fans backs. As fans we want the truth. I don't think that is too much to ask, but I do think it is unrealistic to expect, unfortunately.
From the time I was a kid I learned that lying was wrong. As a kid I sometimes found myself telling lies if I thought I would get in trouble if the truth came out. There comes a time though (for most people at least) that you understand that you have to tell the truth regardless whether you are going to get in trouble or not.
Throw on top of that that Braun went out and organized a press conference to proclaim his innocence and it really infuriates. It's one thing to try to hide it and only answer questions when they are directed at you, but this guy openly went out and tried to deceive people. He's a dirt bag.
It's the same reason why we cared so much about Barry Bonds, A-Rod, etc. These guys are singled out because they aren't just breaking the rules, they're breaking the rules and winning awards such as MVPs and World Series Rings. Braun was the 2011 NL MVP, a 5 time All-Star and Silver Slugger, and the ROY of 2007. There were plenty of guys on lists like this and the Mitchell Report that you do not hear about, and that is because they do not have the accolades that guys like Braun have.
Good thing A-Rod is clean...
even I know A-Rod sucks... I am ashamed he ever wore, and unfortunately still wears, a Yankee jersey.
I just hope this information once and for all outs him as a serial user (not that BS excuse he fabricated for using only briefly as a Texas Ranger), and the Yankees can rid themselves of his ridiculous, bloated contract and toxic presence on the roster.
get rid of A-rod's contract the entire baseball world (not wearing pin-stripes) will explode in violent rage. The Yankees would be able to lure arguably the best player in baseball, at the time, with one of the most rediculous contracts in baseball. The one sollace for MLB fans was the fact that the Yanks would be stuck paying out an obscene amount of money to A-rod in his twighlight years.
A-rod is an injury ridden, poor preforming, toxic nightmare--but flashing monumental cash in his face is how the Yankees got him. This is what NY paid for and to somehow get out of the deal when it is finally slanted against them would be totally unjust.
I am a Yankee fan and have never liked A-Rod or his crappy, bloated contract. I was glad when we signed him just because it kept him away from the Red Sox. He has done nothing since joining the Yankees. Even his MVP years were debatable at best. If he has been on PEDs while with the Yankees and they can show it led to his injuries, I don't see why they couldn't get out of the remainder of his contract and even recoup some of his past salary. We could really use the cash to sign some new 40 year old washed up dudes this off season!
You are logically correct but you aren't thinking like a fan. If he went to Boston, he would have won 5 World Series rings and been MVP every year. This is the only way I can tolerate the catastrophe that was his signing. Actually, A-Rod's fragile psyche may have done much better in the laid back Red Sox clubhouse than with the all business Yankees. I'm just glad my team has money to burn. Thank you YES network.
They wont void the contract because of the MLBPA fallout and the agent fall out. That union has more power than it deserves, and they'll flex it if it looks like a team is about to do something like voiding a contract, even if it is A-Rod, whom everybody hates.
I agree, they should be able to, and shouldn't have to worry about any consequences, but they'll be hard pressed to land another big free agent if they show that they're willing to actually void contracts. Agents will steer clear of them.
It's funny when you look at the list. It's all latin players and...Ryan Braun.
Yeah - if you base it on this season, Perslta is the best player on that list. Would be a big loss for us. Maybe we need to deal one of our many OFs for a middle infielder soon. At least once AJax comes back.
I'm sure there are options out there via a trade but I can't think of many teams dealing an average SS without asking for the world from the Tigers.
Not too many good SS available right now. My guess is they move Infante over to SS and bring Danny Worth or someone like that up.
don't just base it on 50+ games this year. cabrera, fielder, jackson and hunter are clearly better offensively. Vmart is vastly better historically and will likely do better going forward. i would even consider dirks better offensively. peralta and infante would be a near push.
He only had a handful of homers and around 30 RBIs...
OOOO whooops! Forgot about the batting average above .330. Kinda important lol
Isn't a position player anymore. And i'd be hard pressed to believe even with a superb next 100 games that his #s would overtake Jhonnys.
at least, Santiago is a good defender and has been throughout his career. The dropoff in offense would be a major hit though.
think it would derail the Tigers season or anything considering the other guys they have, since Peralta would be back after 50 games. Stll though for those 50 games, the offensive dropoff (assuming Peralta continues to have a good season) would be substantial.
Jackson will obviously add more depth to the lineup when he get's back if they lose Peralta, and V-Mart hopefully getting on track at some point would also help as well.
I wonder what they threatened Bosch with to get him to start talking? This guy was denying everything, now he's singing like a bird.
See: Shaprio. Nevin.
I would imagine the the Players Union lawyers might have something to say about suspending people without positive tests. I doubt there is anything in the CBA about suspending people because somebody said he sold players PEDs
No, they had a positive test.

Seems a bit out of bounds to be suspending players without positive tests AND without a conviction/legal proceeding that proved without a shadow of a doubt someone was guilty. Innocent until proven guilty....unless you're part of professional sports! We'll punish you arbitrarily!
I think there is some sort of clause in the CBA which allows for punishment if there is proof that a player obtained/posessed a banned substance. That being said I don't know what actually counts as proof. A list of names is something which is easily falsified and on its own doesn't prove possession of PEDs ever actually happened.
power to suspend these guys based on the agreement. Obviously, positive tests and criminal convictions for steroids are violations, but I am not sure what the rest of the agreement says when it comes to whether the word and records of a suppliers are considered to be enough evidence for a suspension.
