OT: Miss St. Players Donating for Local Charities

Submitted by redwhiteandMGOBLUE on

Nearly 40 Mississippi State players donated portions of their gift cards, from their bowl gift bags, to buy presents to be distributed to children in need across the state of Mississippi.

They went shopping for the kids at a local Wal-Mart.

“Going to a New Year’s Day bowl is a great reward for our kids, and the gifts and other perks that go with it are nice,” head coach Dan Mullen said. “But this time of year is really about giving more than it is about getting, and for our players to do this for kids around the state of Mississippi is really a special deal.”

Several players will deliver the gifts to charities near their hometowns after the Bulldogs dismiss for the Christmas holiday following Tuesday’s practice. Charities include Mississippi Children’s Cancer Clinic in Jackson, Tupelo Children’s Mansion, the Boys and Girls Club of Starkville and The Father’s Child Ministry, an inner-city ministry in Columbus which is run by former Bulldog football player Edward Yeates.

Very comparable to our players and the great things they do for C.S. Mott.

As much as we like to demonize other teams, there are some great guys and great teams out there. This is a tremendous reflection on Mullen and his team. Thanks for the post.

One other thing strikes me. People can do both good and bad things. (I'm saying this before the inevitable post about something evil Mullen has done.) Lord knows, I've done enough boneheaded things myself. We all do. Doing good things and doing evil things are not mutually exclusive. I say this because there are some great guys on Michigan's team, and I'm sure they would be the first to tell you they are hypocrites too, and have done stupid and wrong things. I hope we can applaud and praise the good things we see, and encourage people to do better when we see something less commendable.
