If you ask Grizzlies fans for the past 5-6 seasons, they'll tell you that Conley has been underrated due to playing in a small market city. Conley has been a good all-around player that doesn't really have any weaknesses in his game. True, Conley also isn't really elite at one thing either except maybe defense, but he's a great example of a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" type player.

If the chart at the end of the article holds once the figures are official, it looks as if 6 of the top 7 richest contracts in the NBA will have been handed out in basically the past few weeks. Unreal.

The NBA is making more money. Someone was going to get the money. It was either going to go to the players or to the owners and executives.

I just hope all the lower level employees are seeing somewhat of a raise as well.

I would've loved to see what would've happened if the NBA was like...fuck it. To prevent this craziness. EVERYONE is a free agent this year! Except rookies. Completely unrealistic but would've been so fun to see how it plays out. At least more contracts would make more sense.

I not surprised or troubled that players are getting these contracts. I'm shocked that Mike friggin' Conley got this contract. Sinking that much in a mediocre player is poor roster management even if the cap is blowing up. They're treating him like a franchise player when he is most certainly not. Someone doesn't know how to G.M. very well.

KD, Westbrook, KD and Curry should be $40 or $50 million a year players then, right? I know they probably won't get quite that much, but if 15 and 5 gets you $30 million, mathematically those guys deserve almost double.

I'm sure he does. They wouldn't have paid him that if they didn't think he was worth it. Not saying he should give the money back, but if he's the highest paid player in NBA history, and the average person doesn't even know his name like they would with KD, Lebron, and Curry, I personally feel like they overpaid.

But that's me.

I'm a bit surprised how some people here really don't remember him at Ohio St going to the NC game?

On a side note (which may get me negged), I actually like Conley. He's always seemed like a classy guy to me.

This is what it looks like when a league actually compensates its athletes what they're worth in terms of value. You NFL fans may be unfamilliar with the concept.

Therefore, even NBA bench players are signing more lucrative contracts than, say, Andrew Luck.

Whether he is worth that is debatable. You also cannot compare basketball with it's five starters and 15 total and the NFL with it's 56 with 22 starters. A NBA player is going to be worth more because there are fewer of them and a single player can have a greater impact on NBA team than any football player can.

Nope, the reason is that the NBA players union is much stronger than the NFL's. They collectively bargained to get 49% of all league revenue. Plus their contracts are fully guaranteed. If it was all about roster size then Hockey players would be making the same as baseball players(yes I know they have no cap but even the small market teams compensate their best players well) as they have relatively the same size rosters.

I said it one one of the reasons. It is one of many. I don't really watch baseball much either to be honest. I don't have a problem with pro athletes getting paid well, but pro sports salaries are becoming ridiculous and are getting way out of hand. Most people agree about that. Pro football is a little different because contracts are not guaranteed.

Nothing like NBA free agency to bring out all the people who don't seem to grasp basic math and economics. The contract for Conley, who quite frankly is really good, makes perfect sense when you realize the league's TV revenue is practically tripling. Comparisons to other leaves or old contracts are illogical.

Well, somebody is gonna make the money, and that somebody either had to be the billionaire owners or the players who actually, you know, play the game. Better the players get half than the fat cat owners get more than that.
