OT - Michigan Bar in London

Submitted by VBSoulPole on

Hello Brethren,

In Brighton/London UK for work this week/weekend and looking for a good place to watch the game this weekend. I'm staying in the Chelsea/Fulham area of S London so any recommendations will be much appreciated. Doesn't have to be nearby, just a good atmosphere with other M fans/alums or CFB fans. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

a little over an hours comute by train depending on the route, station, and time of day.  Its not like Grand Rapids/Chicago at all which is more like 4 hours, minus the time change.

Brighton is about 46 miles from city center to city center.

How's living in Belfast? Was there last summer. Favorite city in the U.K. People talked it down in England and Scotland, but when I finally arrived it was heaven. Honestly friendliest people I met while in U.K. My rule of thumb is the people get friendlier the further north from London you get

There's still plenty of political bullshit to go around, and that can be a drag, but overall it's a good place to live.  Lots of good bars, and as you found, very friendly people.

The thing about people getting friendlier north of London may be true, but being from NY myself, I tend to be wary of the 'people from big cities are dicks' motifs.

There are three (3) problems with these threads: 1) The OP is usually a humblebrag. And your lack of self-awareness over the issue astounds me. 2) The "Where can I find a bar?" threads are useless noise in an otherwise useful site.  3) There is a Michigan bar thread at the top of the site. Use it. Update it. Keep it off the board.  Failure to use it only proves problem #1.

I'll go gladly take flight to Bolivia if it stops people like you from making the "Where can I find a bar?" posts.

1) Some people just travel for work (or fun) and like to watch Michigan games amongsts like-minded individuals. Your focus on my supposed 'humblebrag' is cynical and insecure. Grow up.

2) If these threads were useless they would never be posted. People start them, people get the help they requested, people ignore your rage. Move on.

3) The bar thread is rarely updated. If you'll notice in the thread there are people with actual experience in bars in London from no more than a month ago. While the bar thread can be useful, input from local alums/frequent travelers/residents is more useful.

Nobody cares about your posts but you. Please go climax to your points and then come back and downvote my post. Hopefully your post-coital satisfaction will bring you some solace

Apparently you're only reading my posts and not the other posts that were making fun of your request.  Reread the thread.  While you're doing your research, feel free to use the search function to find other like threads that were similarly brutalized.  If you've regularly lurked here it's an old joke.  Rather than rehash a bit, I'd rather just call you what you are - someone who feels the need to tell everyone that he's going to London.  Remind me which one of us is insecure?

But I'm sure you're biggest concern while traveling to London - for *work* no less - will be finding a Michigan bar. Give me a fucking break.

While I always love these threads to see the absolutely asinine yet hilarious posts, I'll chime in with a legitimate recommendation.

Sports Cafe near Piccadilly Circus might air it. It's basically an American bar that they threw down right in the middle of London. They were showing MLB games every night I was there, and they have TVs everywhere, so there's a chance they'd play the UM game.

Now if it's on BTN, you might be SOL until Delaney tries to add Cambridge into the Big Ten.

Hell I live in London and have no idea where to watch the games...I usually end up watching on the internet in my pajamas (About the only good thing about last year was that I got more sleep...wasn't worth it to stay up well into the night watching that nightmare of a team.).

Sidenote...I'm often caught off guard when I see someone sporting UM gear. But it does happen a fair amount...much more so than OSU and MSU (saw a guy with a MSU shirt on today..first time in 7 years. I was tempted to kick him in the nuts).

I'm sure she won't mind.

I'm seriously envious of you. London is on my bucket list of places to visit. As much as I love michigan football I'd miss a game to tour London. So much history there.

Belushi's Bar in London Bridge (161-165 Borough High Street, SE1 1HR).  If you take the tube (Jubilee line) to London Bridge then it is very near there, you can find it on google maps just by typing in the post code SE1 1HR.  Kick-off is at 8.30 local time.  I hope you have a great time in London.
