OT-MHSAA Football Playoffs

Submitted by Ziff72 on
Little late but I just got done watching the Clarkston and Stevenson semi-final game. While the coach for Clarkston screwed up with the classic "All The Right Moves" move by handing off. I have never seen a team get fucked by the refs worse than Clarkston. I think I counted 4 horrible calls that if any would have been called correctly would have won the game. IF you haven't seen it go to the MHSAA website and watch the last 3 minutes of the game, simply amazing.

I am at ford field watching Inkster play Lowell. Watching DG highlight videos it always looks like he kind of shot puts the ball when he throws but I can see why he is rated as having one of the strongest arms for a QB recruit. In warm ups he was throwing bullets - it was impressive.

Gardner not looking very impressive. He should look like a man amongst boys he looks like a boy amongst boys. They don't bonce off of him, he goes down easy, he isn't very shifty or fast. His throwing mechanics are horrible he pushes the ball instead of throwing it. It is still early put so far I don't see what all the hype is about.

Cleary, based on your judgement RR has made a mistake and should immediately revoke his offer and free up a scholarship for someone else. I have never seen him in person, but have watched a lot of video on him and considering he is in HS and all the "experts" are extremely high on him, I'd say there is something they are seeing that you obviously can't. This isn't the place to be bashing future UM players.

But when someone says: "Gardner not looking very impressive. He should look like a man amongst boys he looks like a boy amongst boys. They don't bonce off of him, he goes down easy, he isn't very shifty or fast. His throwing mechanics are horrible he pushes the ball instead of throwing it. It is still early put so far I don't see what all the hype is about." it seems more like bashing than giving an opinion. If it was more like "I have been watching the game and he hasn't really stood out to me so far" that would be different.

It sounds like an opinion to me. And, I couldn't agree more. Not only does he not seem fast, he seems slow. I think he is at a disadvantage because Lowell seems to be a much better team, but UofM slappies or not, we should be able to see that this kid needs some time to develop.

is a hell of a lot different than saying his mechanics are horrible and I can't see what all the hype is about. There are a lot better ways to critique a guys performance than to use words like horrible and slow etc and when he is a future player of the team you support, I think it is a better idea to use them.

That he still needs time to develop, like I said above. After I mentioned that, I would describe him exactly the same way that nearly every other recruiting analyst in the country does and you can bet that "horrible" or "I don't see what all the hype is about" wouldn't appear anywhere in it.

I think the argument here is whether we are discussing him in general or in regards to this game. I would agree that no one should take one performance and forget a career of performances. However, I think the description could be much more critical when describing this game.

This is the first time most of us have seen him in a full game. Those Friday night lights video's that are posted here are just overviews. This is a big game against the best team they have faced, I expected more out of him. Having said that I honestly don't know how Inkster won a game with the line and D they have.

Bullshit?! Are you guys watching the same game. He broke 1 tackle that I have seen, but has been pretty easilly tackled other than that. As far as pushing the ball goes, three of his passes looked like jumpshots and that interception was awful. A bad game doesn't mean the kid doesn't have a great future, but he looks like he is feeling a tremendous amount of pressure and is reverting back to old habits that were the knock on him last year.

I am not trying to defend everything that has been said, but fine, if you want me to, I would say that so far this game I haven't seen it either. I called a friend of mine to tell him this game was on TV so he could see the QB recruit I have been telling him about, and right now I am wishing I didn't. All he has seen this game is an interception, another pass that should have been intercepted, and two long completions that looked like he threw the ball up and prayed. I buy the hype and like this kid, but liking him and the fact that he is our #1 recruit to not make bad passes pretty. All I said was that he has played poorly so far today.

I didn't watch the game but with all the hype around here regarding him I would expect a pretty stellar performance. If what the other guy has said is true than I would be suspect as well. It is all he has to go on as far as seeing a whole game of his.

I have to agree. I thought he would be dominate, but nothing so far. He hasn't done anything with his legs, and he threw a bad pick. He has the size though. I'm surprised the coach hasn't called more runs for him.

This is more like it. Inkster is in their two minute offense and throwing a lot. I think before he may have been looking to get in a groove, but running twice and getting a third and long is a hard way to establish a passing game. He is giving off pretty much every time on the zone read, but his designed runs aren't getting him much room to move. He definitely has an arm, and I am starting to see some of the accuracy. I just haven't seen much of the running aspect of his game yet.

What accuracy? You are killing me. I think this kid is going to end up as a good QB at michigan, but I think you are seeing what you want to see. His line is getting bitch slapped and that is not making life easy for him, but he has looked horrible this game.

Yep you can see flashes, Though I didn't like the deep pass when you stepped back instead of stepping into the hit, But that is a hard thing to do. Not many QB's will step into a hit.

Inkster D can't stop Lowell, and Inkster's O-line is really terrible. Devin's going to need to get some help if they want to pull off the comeback.

Yeah...? What is your point? I didn't say you cannot shift the focus, I just questioned his post. He said the way the thread was going it sounded as if Inkster was getting killed. I asked how he came to that conclusion when most of the comments from everyone thus far have been about Gardner and not the game as a whole.

This is a University of Michigan sports blog. That's probably a good place to start with trying to understand this. There's a reason nobody is live blogging any other HS football games. You might check out InksterGoBlog or LowellZone.com for more comprehensive coverage.

the way people are talking sounds like Inkster is getting killed. For those of us poor souls stuck working today can someone give us a little update on the overall game status as well as DG?

UMdad

Here is your update. Lowell is running a simple dive option offense and is killing Inkster. Their QB is playing great and their defense is putting a ton of pressure on Gardner. Score is 19-6 and counting.
