OT - Mayweather's working on another payday (It is tax season after all)

Submitted by trueblue262 on

What do you think the general public would pay for this PPV? Personally think Floyd would get wrecked in the octogan with MMA rules, but I could be wrong.

I mean the general thoughts on the boxing match was that Floyd was going to win, just a matter of how bad. Thoughts?

It would be like the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Chapionship:  Boxer enters ring.  Takedown, ground and pound or submission, over.

Mayweather is way too smart to actually do this.

But the man is a genius at ginning up publicity.  He'll use it to increase his payday at a subsequent boxing match (or another exhibition--perhaps with mixed rules this time?  I could see him agreeing to something like kickboxing rules).

Everyone wins!  It promotes boxing, it promotes MMA, and a whole bunch of people make a lot of $!

(1) Boxing "won" in August 2017, as it proved a MMA striker can't beat a premiere boxer.  (not that that was really in doubt)

(2) UFC will "win" in this fight, as it will prove a pure boxer can't beat a premiere MMA fighter.  (this isn't really in doubt either)

(3) Mayweather won a whole lot of $ in August 2017.  He'll win some more $.

(4) McGregor won a whole lot of $ in August 2017.  He'll win some more $.

He should just fight Conor in a kickboxing match. Floyd has zero chance to win a contest where grappling is an element, he's so far behind Conor on every skill he'd need to work on. It'd be like trying to win a debate in a foreign language with a skilled orator when you're just now cracking a 101 textbook on the language.

But kickboxing? Sure Conor would have a huge advantage, but I could buy that Floyd could study how to defend leg kicks before I buy he'd be able to master wrestling takedown defense and BJJ.

Floyd isn't dumb, just greedy.  I can see him taking a rematch in the boxing ring, but no way will he let himself get humiliated in the octagon.

There is a wide gap between Floyd and Conor in boxing. It isn't a gap in MMA - it's a fucking chasm.

To put things into perspective: Conor is a BJJ purple belt. At a street level, a purple belt is capale of submitting 99.9% of the walking human population with relative ease. It takes years of training to get to that degree of ability - and he's still considered terrible on the ground in professional fights. Floyd is a white belt who would get submitted by a lot of upper-level white belts.

That's not even the biggest piece - which is the kick. Conor would throw leg and body kicks until Floyd cried wolf, then start climbing to the head when his body wore down. It would be over inside 2 minutes.

Mayweather to be crushed.  Besides not having the skill set, it is apparent he is too old to be in the ring.  May end up as Ali did by making one or two fights too many.  Could be disastrous for his future health.

Conor is a purple belt in BJJ. A purple belt. Floyd is a will-someone-show-me-what-a-kimura-is white belt.

If it went to the ground, Conor would choke him out, or break his arm, or throw him in a triangle, or bend him arm behind his back, or..... the list goes on.

Dude is 21-3..... he hasn't lost many fights period.   Needless to say, he hasn't lost many fights on the ground.

Eh, the Diaz loss is mostly due to fatigue and subsequent laziness in his slipping/parrying. Had he been prepared for a marathon he would've slipped the check hook that left him concussed.

Still, all three of his losses are from submissions.

Floyd has no reason..If it was about the $ he would just box again and make 150 mill..Floyd knows how to work the people and keep his name alive and that's what this is..Floyd almost retired 12 yrs ago due to his hands constantly breaking, you really think he's going to fight in those little gloves?

But i will give any boxer a punchers chance to land one as the mma guy tries to shoot in. If he does, you have your upset.

MMA guys simply do not hit as hard as boxers. All a boxer does his entire life is focus on that skill. If it gets to the mat, or if McGregor can overwhelm him with kicks, it will end soon. But the last thing he wants to do is get in a fist fight with a bare knuckle boxer.
