OT: Mass Effect 2

Submitted by chunkums on

If anyone is on the fringe of buying this game, or just needs something new to play, I think this is the most immersive gaming experience I've ever had. I'm supposed to be setting up my online portfolio and getting ready for a job fair, but I've done absolutely nothing for two days.

That is all

Fortunately, work has kept me super busy these last two days so I can't waste away playing it at all hours. The temptation is there, however.

I'm not that far into it, but it is a must-own.

I concur.

BioWare makes nothing but quality RPGs, and Mass Effect 2 has been spellbinding thus far.

This may sound blasphemous, but I think that both Mass Effect games are superior science fiction to Avatar. Video games are approaching a realm of artistry formerly reserved for major motion-pictures.

Commander Shepard for the win.

It is the science fiction soap opera that I could see becoming a movie trilogy. The depth of the characters and breadth of the storyline is fantastic.

I like that the new one will be unique to everyone who plays it, given all the customization and decisions one faces. Truly ahead of the curve.

...I had heard about Hollywood making a "Mass Effect" movie, and to me that sounds ridiculous.

It isn't a novel - it's not as though it exists only as literature and has yet to become a sight-and-sound, multimedia experience.

Yet, it has all of the advantages of the novel - you get to spend hours upon hours upon hours with the protagonist. Shit, you get to BE the protagonist.

So my question is... WHY? Other than a built-in fanbase and a large opening weekend box-office take, why would anyone want to make it a movie?

It would only cheapen the experience. The joy of Mass Effect lies in the freedom of the player to make choices. Film is the LEAST interactive medium there is!

I'm beginning to think that long-form RPGs are the purest, best medium for science fiction stories. I haven't had an experience like "Mass Effect 2" at the movies since "The Empire Strikes Back".

I'm only about 2 hours in to this game and I think my head has exploded at least 8 times. Bioware is just unreal.

What class did everyone go with? I was a soldier in the first and I'm doing vanguard in the 2nd.

Used for Barbarian hit points and longsword damage vs. Large size monsters (1st Edition AD&D).

Wasted a lot of Saturday mornings, afternoons and evenings locked in my friend's basement gorging myself on Doritos and luke-warm Mountain Dew while hacking my way through "The Ghost Tower of Inverness" or "Bone Hill" in search of the all-elusive +5 Vorpal Holy-Avenger.

NEERRRDDD! ;-)

I am getting my xbox fixed right now and I probably won't get to play this game until next week. The first one was awesome and from all the things I have seen Mass Effect 2 has improved many different areas so I can't wait to play it.

Bought game last night; started at 9pm, next thing I know it's 1:30 am and forced myself to call it quits so I could wake up in time to make it to work. I thought Mass Effect 1 sucked my life away, but looks like part 2 is going to be even worse.

I bought the game the day it came out and I play every every chance I get. It definitely helps to play the first one (usually only $15), but you could enjoy it without it. My Shepard has Michigan armor.

No co-op play its strictly a single player experience, though your main character has two computer teamates that you work with (that you can also control)

PS. Dear lord this game is fun, stupid real life keeps getting in the way though...

I don't have 360 anymore and have PS3 so I might buy the PC version. I have a lot of work this week and I know if I buy this game my Fiance will dump me and I will be fired from work.

But what the heck I will buy it on Saturday and call it month.

Not to spoil the game for me but is Shepard still a Spector?

because of the shooter-combat aspects of the game. I am not a "quick-twitch-button-mashing" guy and ME's combat was too hard for me to get a handle on. They really needed a tutorial area on the Normandy so you could SAFELY learn how to work all the controls properly and not get killed every three seconds.

I'm playing Dragon Age right now, but the graphics are disappointing compared to ME (I think they started developing DA before ME...took a long time to finish DA.)

Even though the graphics are horribly outdated, I think my favorite Bioware game is still Baldur's Gate 2. What say the other geeks on this thread: favorite Bioware game of all time?
