OT: Mark May predicts OSU in NC game

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on
I was watching the UNC spring game today (who looked offensively inept BTW) and Mark May (I think it was Mark May anyway) made his prediction for next year's national championship game. He puts Ohio State in it, along with Alabama. He then supplements this prediction by saying Alabama will be undefeated at this point and OSU will have one loss. Obviously OSU's one loss will occur on November 27th, and I find it hard to believe they can retain a #2 spot after losing that late in the season. Anyway, what are the MGoOpinions on this? Is Mark May correct about these two teams being in it? If I had to make a prediction, they might be the two teams I'd choose.

cuz hes been talking about ohio state ever since the end of last year. i can see ohio state make the nat champ if they run the tables. if they lose one(which is much more likely(at least one)) i dont see them making it simply because other teams will have better resumes. may also brought up pryor for heisman talk, which is laughable. oh and i saw north carolina's spring game too. i could see their dline as the best in the country. hard to find someone who can compete with m. austin in the middle. they have some qb issues tho.

I don't think it's laughable, but it's pretty close, really. Statistically, Pryor is more like Craig Krenzel right now than he is Vince Young, except probably not as smart as Krenzel. He manages the game decently and does about as much as he has to. Sometimes I wonder if his strategic usage keeps him from getting into a rhythm that would make him more dangerous, but whatever.

Pryor will be an upperclassmen this season. He is the best player on possibly the best team, with a nice resume going in. Pryor is not going to be lacking for exposure and already has a Rose Bowl MVP to his credit. If he makes marked improvement this year(a distinct possibility), he will be in the Heisman race. If Pryor played for Michigan, I would read on this blog the following words at least once a day
Pryor is 6'6" 235, he's a beast

I'll believe it when I see it. At this point, Pryor is miles away from Heisman contention as a QB. He would have to seriously improve his numbers in order to win, which will be tough with a better running game this year. Pryor is nowhere close to Troy Smith in terms of QB ability at this point, and I just don't see him having the "Yes!.....oh fuck!" plays with his arm that Smith had against Michigan.

I would have to guess that Mark May is wrong as usual. I have no proof to back this up, just Mark May's track record. Though, the Alabama part may be true. Then he would only be half wrong (or half right if you're an optimist, and have a man crush on Mark May)

OSU is usually overrated by the national media, and this season will apparently be no exception. I'm not a hundred percent sold on the re-ascension of the Big Ten to football Valhalla yet, but I think there is enough talent to hand OSU a couple of losses at inopportune times. If OSU loses the last game on the schedule to UM, there is no way they will end up number two. I really hope Michigan has something to say about this in November. It would be a great cap to their "comeback" season.

OSU will be good. Maybe even very good. But they won't be the best team in the country. I could see them going undefeated or having one loss though. They don't have an extremely difficult schedule. Their 2 hardest games are @Wisconsin and @Iowa. Those will be tough, but they are winnable.

he picks the incumbent national champion & OSU. The only other teams ranked above OSU at the end of last season: Texas (lost McCoy) Florida (lost Tebow) and Boise ( please) The other teams that rounded out the top 10 last season were TCU, Iowa, Cinci, PSU, and Va Tech. Would you pick any of them to the MNC? so he basically picked the two most obvious teams. why are we talking about what May thinks anyways?

I kind of hope it is too, because the ACC really hasn't shown up well in BCS bowls (what's their record now, like 2-11 or something ridiculous like that?) and VT has had a few years where they're on the brink of being great but seem to drop a few much like Michigan last decade. Plus, there's much less to hate about VT than, say, Bama.

That's just crazy talk. OSU won't lose four games during the regular season this year. If they did, they probably wouldn't be playing in the Capital One Bowl. It's perfectly fine (even preferrable) to hate OSU but you can't let bias get in the way of realism. OSU won't lose to Miami in the 'shoe. Look at what Wisconsin did to Miami in the bowl game last year. Sure, Miami's young QB may get better, but so will Pryor (and he has a higher ceiling). Wisconsin is a "maybe" loss. Iowa is an "unlikely" loss. Michigan is a "very unlikely" loss, again, especially at the 'shoe. Yep, it's fine to hate OSU but you have to admit that they've built a program that just doesn't implode upon itself. Anything more than two losses during the regular season would be very surprising.

Also, Florida will not be in the Cap1 Bowl, they will be in a BCS bowl. Outside of Bama, I don't think there's another SEC team better than them, and they are a perrenial 2 bid conference.

being called the best team of all time when we go down there. I want OSU's players so confident and so full of themselves that they think they just need to walk out onto the field and victory is assured. I want them completely focused on their national championship game opponent and thinking that we're just a temporary minor hurdle to get over on their way to it. I want them laughing at us during pre-game warmups. That will make watching their national championship dreams evaporate after having been hit in the mouth for 60 minutes by Michigan all the more satisfying.

Mark May isnt the only one making that prediction. The betting public is expected to be on the Buckeyes as well. Per the odds, the Bucks are 6/1 to win the title. Only Alabama at 4/1 is better. Recent betting has trended towards the Buckeyes. At this same book, odds a week ago were 3.5/1 on Bama, 6.5/1 on OSU. These are the only two teams with odds lower than 10/1....Boise is third at 12/1 So if chalk doesnt hold in winning the title, then there is going to be a big payout somewhere for those savvy souls taking the other clubs. All that said, I dont think the Bucks get out of at Wisco, at Iowa unscathed. I dont think a 1-loss Big 10 team makes the finals. I know it happened in 2007, but it also took a unique series of twists and turns on the final days to make that happen. Any idiot can pick Bama/OSU. I contend I am not just any idiot. How about a way too early, and in now way binding pick of....Boise State vs Texas.

instead of boise state. i would absolutely HATE having to play a mid major. if u win, u should have won cuz theyre the "little" dog. if u lose, OH EM GEE THE LITTLE DOG CAN RUN WITH THE BIG DOG per ESPN for another 4 months. course...nat champ sounds good tho =]

is a pro - OSU city, just crammed to the brim with scarlet and gray! Of course they would set the odds like that! They're just anti - Michigan!! Got to cut it short; I think they're onto me, and I don't want them tracing this back to my house!

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if OSU is 11-0 going into the Michigan game. However Ohio is not going to finish the regular season 12-0. This is Michigan's year to beat the Bucknuts. Fuck Ohio State, Fuck Mark Mays.

Mark May and his buddy Lou Holtz make the most laughable predictions I have seen on TV. ESPN is a pro-Ohio State organization and Big Blue will be leaving their mark on people this year. Rich Rod knows he has a good team this year and he is playing it down. The pieces are now in place and they are 15 lbs. bigger than last year per man. Mark May can mark my words-pun intended. No Ohio State Championship Game this year. Go Blue!

call ESPN a "pro-OSU organization" they DO employ not one, not two, but THREE former OSU football players who can spread their OSU bias (subtly done, of course) over the airwaves on the Worldwide Leader. I know that Desmond works for ESPN as well (that is still one Wolverine to three Buckeyes), but its pretty obvious that he does NOT support the current staff at UofM.

ESPN is trying to replace there golden goose, of course there hitching there wagon to "Everyone steals" Pryor and OSU. I hope he has another one of his fucktard moments....Priceless "Not everybody's the perfect person in the world. I mean everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever. I think that people need a second chance, and I've always looked up to Mike Vick, and I always will." Pure gold my friends. P.S. Mark May is an Idiot.

They won't win the game. OSU may very well be a powerhouse this year. I just find it hard to believe that TP can lead them when the pressure starts to mount. He seems to immature to understand what his role is on that team. As good as OSU may be I just don't see him leading them to the title.
