Pleasantly surprised by how Sam stepped up in the fifth set after choking away the 4th.
Can be had. He's a little off in this tournament.
He's been off most of the year honestly. Kind of seems like he played too much trying to get to #1 at the end of last year and his body hasn't responded well. Ordinarily I'd say this is a really bad matchup for Sam, but Murray hasn't been consistent all year.
Well...my prediction of all Americans losting before week 2 was wrong. Well done Querrey.
Now on to the main event - Roger vs. Baby Fed.
Nadal will come back and win - book it now.
and lost.
thanks a lot.
I just love how everyone is quitting this year rather than playing "injured" because the purses are so big, even for those who lose early. That makes it fun!
It is a broken system.
But, I think a lot of it is WAY overblown. Guys like Tipsarveic and Dogopolov, who had to stop early, do they really need the 42,000 dollars from being a R1 loser? That is chump change for them.
Oh, I am not even really damning the players. The system is what it is, and if you can make $45,000 for an hour of work with little real effort, go for it! It really sucks for those people that waited two days in a tent for tickets, but hey, it is what it is...
I'm sure they have plenty of money, but that's still a lot. Tennis is expensive. After paying taxes, travel and you whole team the take home $ isn't near what you would think.
Grigor wilting under the pressure late in the 1st
Just like that Nadal draws even at two sets a piece. He's just so damn determined. I'm really hoping we get another Rodger vs. Rafa final.
Rafa has come back to even it at two sets a piece setting up a deciding 5th set.
All Federer has to do is hold serve three more times and he's on to the quarters in straight sets.
Federer broken. It's 4-4 in the 3rd. He's up 2 sets to none.
Federer breaks back, serving for the match at 5-4 in the 3rd.
Federer advances in straight sets.
Thanks to all for the updates here. I'm a big Federer fan, and hoping he can win number 19 in less than a week.
Holy crap Rafa is pumped up right now after saving 2 match points.
Rafa just saved 2 break points that would have ended the match. Tied 5-5 in the 5th set. This one could last a while
Damn and then Muller comes right back with a great game. This Muller is a cool cat.
Muller's getting tight.
Muller showing some serious stones in this one. Saved multiple break points and managed to hold serve. Now at 10-9 in the 5th set.
This match is nuts
This match could be over if that line judge doesn't call that Muller second serve out. Chair Ump overruled which gave Muller a first serve, he proceeded to get two aces and an easy forehand winner to hold serve. Nadal had him on the ropes, but now if feels like the momentum has shifted to Muller.
Rafa is just relentless!!!
It's ridiculous that they haven't moved the Djokovic match on to Center Court yet
This Nadal/Muller match is great.
Looking forward to the 7 Days in Hell documentary some day.
12-11 now in the fifth...Muller up but on serve
Muller is winning his service games with a lot less effort than Nadal is winning his. The last few service games by Muller have been moslty big serve followed by put away volley. Nadal just looks like he's working harder to win his serve than Muller is to win his.
Big upset for Muller
15-13 for Muller in the 5th
Down goes Rafa. What an unbelievable match.
Gilles freaking Muller.
Dude's furthest run was a QF back in 08, pretty much a relatively average-above average guy most of his career. Doesn't make sense, he's got a lot of game.
Great match from both players. Muller is a much deserved winner.
.........
Muller/Nadal match was off the charts. All credit to Muller. Nadal fought hard, but Muller had all the answers today.
That was a great tennis match. Muller earned a lot of respect today. He played solid tennis throughout and kept his cool. Impressive.
