OT - Little Sam Gordon goes all "Denard" on the rest of the boys in Peewee football.

I searched and didn't see this posted and just wanted to share this little girl's highlight video.

Here is the link to the Huffington Post article

And the highlight video link in question. My apologies, I can't embed to save my life.

...I love Sam's First Play and how the camera man can barely keep up with her burning down the field. Obviously the plays are sped up on the video, but she is significantly faster than all of the other players.  Pretty cool to see.

Holy shit peewee football is way more vicous than i remember, there little bodies collide so fast.  Also what peewee football team is running the zone read?

While she is still fast relative to the boys she is playing against, this footage was pretty obviously sped up.  Regardless...the girl can play.  I wonder how much longer she will be able to keep it up.

Bob Stoops says hello to that.

She is really good.  Great vision, speed and cuts too.

Natural football player.  She is the 9 year old female RB version of Jake Ryan.  Including the hair.

I hope she's having as much fun as she appears to be and she's able to stick with it as she gets older.  The best 11 players should see field and there's no reason to think she won't be one of those for many years to come.

It doesn't surprise me that Peewee football would run zone reads.  Run them "correctly" by leaving the playside end unblocked and reading them?  Maybe not but I see no reason why 8 or 9 year olds couldn't manage the snap and the hand off (or called fake).

There was a 7th grade girl on my son's team this year. And she was very good (you pretty much have to be, if you're going to stick it out as a girl.)

You can manage this in Pee Wee / / Pop Warner leagues, because the weight is approximately the same, and the hits, while hard, are only so hard. Once you are in open leagues (i.e., high school and college,) you are much less likely to see girls playing competitively on the field. But I'm sure it is happening somewhere (girls playing in HS at positions other than kicker.)

I read that she is 60 punds and there is a guy on her team who is 150 (sidenote that is a large 9 year old) but you can see in the video some of those players double her in size so its not like everything is equal.  Also its not like Denard is that big of a guy and I know some girls on the crew team bigger than jeremy gallon, the size difference isn't as big a factor as some people make it out to be

....for those that prefer to watch it in-thread, as it were.

This was fun to watch really. It's Pee Wee League, of course, but she seems to be a natural at the game and has great instincts when running with the ball. She was fighting for yards and has pretty sound tackling technique for the age group too. Very cool find, and thanks for sharing, OP.

She's getting a ton of yards despite running into a loaded box on every play. I'm not sure I've ever seen a good passing offense at that level, plus I'm sure that opposing coaches are doing everything they can to try and slow her down. Thanks for sharing OP.

Anyone know if there are any girls playing at the D1 level in college? The last I can remember was a kicker for New Mexico in the early 2000's, don't think there has been one sense.

Lisa Simpson: What position have you got for me?
[the kids gasps]
Lisa Simpson: That's right. A girl who wants to play football. How about that?
Ned Flanders: Well, thats super-duper, Lisa. We've already got four girls on the team.
Lisa Simpson: You do?
Ned Flanders: Uh huh. But we'd love to have you on board!
Lisa Simpson: Well... football's not really my thing. After all... what kind of civilized person would play a game with the skin of an innocent pig?
Ned Flanders: Well, actually, Lisa, these balls are synthetic!
Janey Powell: And for every ball you buy, a dollar goes to Amnesty International!
Lisa Simpson: [crying] I've gotta go!

I see a lot of missed tackles... what a speedy little roadrunner! I'm glad that she appears to be doing something she loves, and is supported by her coach, team and family. Go Sam!

...there was another pee wee football highlight reel from many years ago.  The undersized kid ran for touchdown after touchdown.  He was unstoppable as a pee wee.  One of the greatest pee wee football records in history.

By the time he got to high school, as an undersized and not-incredibly-fast RB, he became ordinary, and barely got any low-level offers.

Who is the kid I am thinking of?  I think he was from California; I can't find the name...

It is a blast to see her run around out there.  Kind of drives home the fact that everyone matures at a different rate, and that gender differences really have less to do with overall athleticism than just the size of men and women as they grow.
