I had a friend who applied to UM and was a huge UM fan all of last fall.  He watched every game, followed recruiting etc.  That winter he got his rejection letter from UM and guess where he was accepted?  Thats right Ohio.  And now he is an Ohio 'fan".  Thats the end of this weeks edition of cool stories.

Being a graduate from Ohio in '05 and remaining loyal to Michigan through it all I concur. You shouldn't abandon your loyalty just because it's more financially realistic (or possible if you can't get in to UM) to go to the rival school.  If your loyalty is for sale, well, then you weren't that loyal in the first place.

As a side note: people always ask me why I'm not an Ohio football fan. I tell them that I got a degree in mechanical engineering, not football fandom and whatever the football team was or wasn't doing had no impact on me as a student or my future as an engineer. So, through it all, Go Blue! :)

I can certainly appreciate why you wouldn't be an Ohio fan.  You could be like some folks here like me for instance.  I like Eastern and Michigan and I'm really only conflicted when they play each other.  But I was a Michigan fan much longer than I was an Eastern fan.

I grew up in Columbus, went to the Universtiy of Alabama  and went to every home game and some away games. Yet I have always been an unwaivering M fan.

While I root also for Alabama, my passion is for M. Next year in Dallas, I will roote for the Wolverines, but not against UA.  It makes it a little easier since the teams are not rivals though.

sparty advertising "No.1 for study abroad" on their website is pretty good.

might as well say, "do anything you can to stay out of East Lansing"

Personally, I don't think I needed this thread to prove that my Michigan Aerospace degree 3 years from now will be worth more than an MSU degree in anything. But I appreciate the enthusiasm!

I cant help but giggle when anyone connected to MSU uses the term "Student Athlete".  Someone really needs to clue them in on how ridiculous that sounds.

*Looks around hoping pro-spartan mods haven't noticed*

I cannot wait to get to Vegas on Saturday, place a bet On Wisconsin and watch the game in the LV Hilton Sports book.

Saturday night cannot get here soon enough.  The off week is killing me and apparently a few brain cells from some other diehard Michigan fans.

Did you see what I did there?

mods are editing sig lines and moderating comments but leaving blatant 'we lost so we mock poorly' posts up? this is beneath the site in terms of content, bye week or not

I'm tired of seeing facebook status in regards to our #14 academic ranking being better than MSU's this week. Like this post, that stuff just looks petty (particularly in the days following the loss). We've lost 4 years straight to Michigan State - and we have no room to say anything right now. Just accept that. No need to make ourselves look any worse.

I'm not going to lie though.  Although the party the night after a single Paul Bunyan trophy is way better...I'm pretty sure long term Michigan's continued sterling academic reputation is more important to me being a happy alumnus.

The mods are trying to follow Hoke's example, arbitratily deleting about half the anti-MSU posts in an effort to claim superiority over the RCMB.

I say arbitrarily, because I think we can all agree this thread is less than stellar, and I have read about these cute web address tricks several times on this very blog.  While things like that New York Magazine article--which I think a lot of Michigan fans would be interested in, get deleted off the board as a matter of course.

I understand the whole "To hate them is to lend them credibility" angle, but I cannot say I agree.  I hate Lady Gaga's music, and Vampire Diaries(how the hell did Firefly get cancelled, and that crap is still on the air?) but I dont think anyone respects them...

I get the whole "sour grapes" angle too.  But I have to say...This could be just me, but I think it is OK to be mad about what they did to Denard.  Even if we didn't win.  Even if it didn't affect the outcome of the game.  And if they view it as sour grapes...who the hell cares what they think?  ESPN sure doesn't think its sour grapes.

I even get the whole "move on" thing...except..are the UFR's even up yet?  Should Brian just move on, or is it ok for him to still talk about the game?  I'm just a little confused about the unwritten rules here?  I dont want to call any kettles black, but there are many on this board who haven't moved on from an event that occured 10 months ago...As for this event, it hasn't even been a week.

that every time something is posted degrading MSU in some way, this fan base is becoming exactly what it has always detested.  State beat us on the football field, Gholston got his punishment.  It is clear that Michigan is the more respected institution world wide.  Pointing this out in several different "clever" ways only makes us look like sore losers.

Purdue, man, Purdue.

I thought this was going to be our version of their Walmart thing, i.e., a site with of nothing but picture of people sporting MSU gear
