OT: Knocked the F*** Out!

Hatton didn't have a chance, that was almost as bad as Gotti against Mayweather. There's some exciting fights in the near future, I haven't felt this interested in boxing in awhile.

European fighters in general and British ones in particular don't seem to be all that great when they have to fight in America. Joe Calzaghe is the only Brit (Yes, I know he is Welsh) that I have seen perform up to his European standards in an American ring, but it was against washed-up Roy Jones, Jr. Maybe Hatton was too busy thinking about that "rematch" with Mayweather and all the money it was going to make him. Whatever, Hatton has certainly taken his hat out of the "pound for pound" discussion. And he certainly did nothing to make people like me change their mind about most European fighters being overrated. Bring on Mayweather, indeed. If Mayweather can get his reflexes back, this could be a great fight. If he can't and his tank is empty, as I suspect, the Mayweather/Pacquaio fight could have the same result as this one did. Mayweather will sell the tickets, but Pacquaio will probably control the fight. I wonder how the "action" will be on this fight? Will there be more casual fans to lay money on Mayweather, or will there be more serious fans to lay money on Pacquaio? Sorry to "assume" that serious fans won't be betting on Mayweather, but I just can't see anyone thinking he can turn it on and off this time. And if you compare their fights against Hatton, it doesn't look good for Mayweather. I think Mayweather's only chance is to be supremely motivated as an underdog, but I also think he is too arrogant to feel like one. Also, I think Mayweather is an extremely "old" 32; he may be reaching forty in boxing years. Once you retire, it is really hard to make it all the way back to what you were. Even then, if the sport is constantly evolving, being what you were sometimes isn't enough. Golfers sometimes improve if they, as Walter Hagen used to say, "stop and smell the roses." Boxers just get soft. On the other hand, Pacquaio has announced that he will retire in August to concentrate on his political ambitions, and would pour everything he has into one last fight. Early prediction: Pacquaio in six. But he will need a lot better luck than last time in the 2010 elections.

I decided to order the fight about twenty minutes before it started. About a minute into what would have been the third, I asked myself if that was a colossal waste of money. I decided that it was not--that was probably the most violent annihilation I have ever or will ever see, especially given the talent of the receiving end. I mean....damn. Pac Man is ridiculous.

Watched most of that Taylor fight, thanks for the link. Froch is a typical British fighter — gutty, decent boxing skills, but he's an arm puncher who doesn't really get that much leverage in what he throws. His defense is so-so, and he's not particularly quick. If he has a decent chin he'll do well up until the point he fights a top American fighter who isn't past his prime, like Jones was against Calzaghe.
