OT: Kiffin to Niners?

Submitted by mackbru on

ESPN reporting:

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is a front-runner for the same position with the San Francisco 49ers, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Presumably, though, Schefter also thinks Oakland is in play.

How does Lane Kiffen keep getting jobs? He has failed everywhere, and his only claim to fame is being one of Monte Kiffen's sperm(who shouldn't have the clout for a lifetime nepotism job for Lane).

He had a couple of questionable calls, but what OC doesn't?

Alabama had one of the best year's offensively in its school's history. What are you talking about?

It's not Kiffin's fault the Bama CBs were god awful. They gave up the deep ball like it was NCAA Football '04. Just pick Hail Mary every play.

Bama's offense was quite stale and he made huge strides.

He was awful as a HC and I sure as hell wouldn't want him, but "he's failed everywhere" just isn't true.

...is somewhat inexplicable to me.

He doesn't appear to have demonstrably succeeded anywhere.  He doesn't stay in a spot for more than 4.5 seconds.  And yet, he is continually up for new positions that are better than the last.  And at one stop, the team literally mutinied against the man.

I wonder who the 9ers will hire to replace him when he's the GM of another team next season, or the commissioner, or something equally ludicrous he'll get paid millions of dollars to do poorly.

Yeah, although he's failed as a HC, he seems to be a pretty talented OC. Bama fans loved him till the OSU loss. Then the fans naturally blamed him for everything -- even though it was Bama's defense that really fell flat. Such is the life of an OC.

He knows Lane Kiffin personally. Says he's a bright guy, good person, but he's quiet, not "explosive" enough to be a head coach.
