OT-Justin Fields to Georgia

Submitted by WoodleyIsBeast on

Worth nothing that the #1 overall player in this class is heading to Georgia.  Have to think that Eason or Fromm will transfer in the next calendar year.  Glad Fields is not going to PSU, and hope we get to play Georgia in the near future in the playoff......

Got to imagine that if anyone is going to transfer it'll be Eason. It's a tough break for the guy because he played pretty well last year given the circumstances of being a true freshman QB on a rebuilding team, and all of it went to hell over an injury.

But Fromm is playing well and is not making mistakes. Even though Fromm is a true freshman himself, it's hard to imagine Smart handing the job back to Eason as long as Georgia keeps winning. Outside of Auburn, the rest of Georgia's schedule this year is a cakewalk. And Georgia will likely be favored in the Auburn game anyway.

Luckily for Eason, even if he does transfer, he'll have his pick of any school that needs a QB. He's a top flight talent that can still find a future playing on Sundays if he lands in the right program.

Unless you place value in not being associated with a program that enabled a pedophile just to avoid damaging their football team.  Sadly, judging by Penn State's recruiting, that kind of thing doesn't seem to bother a lot of people.

Edit:  This was supposed to be in response the to comment that one year behind Mcsorley is better than two behind Fromm.

Why is it that we can’t get a top QB talent like Fields because we have Peters, McCaffery, etc... or at least that’s the excuse we all use... but Georgia, who has a stable of much higher rated/regarded QB’s can add yet another one.

I guess that went over your head, apparently. I wasn’t complaining. I was genuinely asking a question. I scratch my head that we can’t get “Elite” QB’s every cycle because of what can only be perceived as a “log-jam”. All the while, this doesn’t seem to hamper other programs.

Im totally with you.

Georgia with Eason, Fromm, still landed Fields. How is that not shocking to people on this board? thats like literal 3 stragith 5 star QBs

Is K Smart even a QB guru? No. How is that not happening at Michigan?

Thats the point. Not dogging our current incumbents: they have potential

The board immediately devolves into cheating/hookers etc. That may be how Georgia doing it, but thats not proven. Until then its is shocking and annoying to me the M isn't the one landing these recruits.

to go to a school tha was pursuing him for a very long time. Both of the others are GA kids and I find it no more surprising they chose to attend GA than I do DPJ, our many Cass Tech dbs, our in-state OTs for '17  deciding to choose UM. And MSU is actually a viable "pro style" attack that will prepare their players for the league. GA has no instate challenge in this regard. We have perfectly fine recruits for this position, but just like RB they are only going to be at their best when the first part - the OL-develops around them. Harbaugh was the first UM qb to have success in the NFL under Bo yet I heard no talk about having terrible qb play in the time(from '69 leading up to Jim). He's 1 for 1 so far, taking Rudock from the trash heap at IA and placing him on an NFL roster. Jake never showed the problem with confidence I've seen with Wilton this season who instead of throwing into tight windows on 50/50 balls, hell even 70/30 balls has hesitated until receiver is almost completely free due to early season picks. Then when he did get sacked the OL was taken to task. John came in and managed to get off 26 passes in a little more than 3/4 of a game, 19 of which were on target. Kid played with confidence and ran hard as well. Lifted the spirit of entire team and if gets off to same type of start this weekend, look for team to keep improving on the offensive side of the ball.

I've worked with his mom for several years, she's a smart no nonsense person. I have no insight in the decision but with what UGA has done so far this year, is locking down a local kid that big of a surprise?

When is the last time Michigan landed a consensus 5 star QB? I think it was Ryan Mallett. I thought that Harbaugh would be able to land these types of guys from the beginning. I trust Harbaugh explicitly, just hoping one of his recent pickups pans out. I think McCaffrey will be the guy that breaks out and gives us the type of QB we need to win titles.

Gives perspective. He was only in his second season when he rec'd the McCaffrey commit who had vacillated between 4 & 5, not unlike Kareem Walker at RB. When this occurs, it's always due to change of states, of course, and that is almost always due to change of personnel around them. Inasmuch as they'll be joining other top notch recruits once they arrrive, it's a safe guess they'll play more like the 5 than the 4, although the talent level for both are pretty damn good.
