OT: Jonathan Ericsson leaves Wings game with injured knee

It was a clean hit but still very hard to watch. Here is a link to a Wings blog that has been giving updates www.onthewingsblog.com.
At the end of the post it mentions that Chelios said he would consider coming back to the Wings if the Wings had anymore injuries. Personally, i would be happy to be Chelios back, rather than claiming someone off waivers, picking up a FA, or calling up another defensemen (that is not ready). I would rather have Chelios who might only be able to skate 10-12 good minutes a night than a kid that would give up a lot of opportunities playing 15-18 minutes a night.

I'd love to see the Wings take him up on the offer. If he's playing in the minors now, why wouldn't he be willing to bow out once the team gets healthy again? Hell, he could just sign a two way deal and play in GR at that point since he apparently wants to play even if it's not in the NHL.

gives up the same amount of scoring chances in 10-12 mins of play a night. that was the main reason why he wasn't getting the ice time last year. chelly is awesome but he is not fast enough to play in todays game. i'd much rather have one of the kids from GR called up or find a guy in the FA list. the kids in GR are the future of this team and they need playing time ASAP and now is better then ever. the wings are 1 point out of not making the playoffs and they have 49 games left. they need a long term fix not a short term one. i'd much rather have a battle tested wings team going into the playoffs then a team that coasted through the regular season.

While i agree with you to an extent, i would think that the Wings would rather have someone with playoff experience if Ericsson's injury is long term (it is not, UPDATE down a bit). The experience would be great, but i would think that anyone from GR would get less than 15 minutes a game and that would mean more ice time for Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Stuart. Lebda and Meech are not that reliable and i would not feel comfortable with them getting more ice time than they are getting now.

playoff experience is a plus. but i'd rather have it from a FA that isn't closer to 50 then 40 in age. lebda scares me more than meech, because lebda thinks hes paul coffey and skates himself out of plays. meech stays at home but he just isn't all that good. either way if they bring back chelly the 3 players you listed are still going to be playing more because chelly isn't going to get more than 10 mins a night.

I'm going to stand by my prediction from the day I heard Cleary's out for an extended period*: This team has been officially pronounced dead.
*Because they're 3-0 since.

Half the team: out indefinitely.
Half the team: DEAD.
That is all.

For a long time I have thought a curse has descended upon Detroit sports.... but now it seems as if it has affected the one team I thought impervious to it.

Can we wrap the rest of the Wings in bubble wrap now?
Please?
Pretty please?

I just read that the Ericsson injury seems to be a strain and he is expected to be out at least two weeks. Here is a link http://onthewingsblog.com/.
I would think this would mean the Wings will just call up Kindl for the next few games, especially since Kronwall should be coming back in a few weeks anyways. There would be no reason to go sign Chelios or a FA when we will be getting both Ericsson and Kronwall back in a matter of weeks. Lets just hope no one else goes down in the next few games and i am not sure if the Wings defense could handle another injury.

They have officially called it a bone bruise, same link as above. Injury time between 2 and 3 weeks.
