OT: Jerry Montgomery promoted to DC at Oklahoma
Former M DL coach. That escalated quickly. He's been at OU 2 years.

I wonder what's going on there. If we're trying to snag their OL coach this could be the ideal time.

He was OU's DC, but there is word that he may be taking the DC job at LSU.
January 6th, 2015 at 2:24 PM ^
I would like a raise.

Driving one of these is a start

When he was here, I thought he would be the successor to Mattison. Still bummed we don't have him anymore.

congrats to him

I don't think Stoops fired his brother anyway.......could be wrong
January 6th, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
they're both dicks in their own way
January 6th, 2015 at 12:43 PM ^
that's what makes this so hard
January 6th, 2015 at 12:21 PM ^
Wow takes some guts to "demote" your brother.
January 6th, 2015 at 12:23 PM ^
From what I heard, he was a helluva recruiter.
January 6th, 2015 at 1:18 PM ^
I think that's why he left. Hoke coached the D-line himself and brought Montgomery in mainly as a recruiter. He wants to be an actual coach.

The team practiced even harder when he left.

I think the timing is right but he certainly wasn't the cause. I have a hard time believing a DL coach who worked for Hoke (naturally a DL coach) and Mattison (a DC guru) caused the demise of our team.
January 6th, 2015 at 12:48 PM ^
and the O-line, not being able to practice against a quality D-line, fell off a fucking mountain. Therefore he totally was the cause of our struggles. QED.

But FWIW, Montgomery's last season at UM was 2012, and we had more sacks and TFLs by the DL in 2013 than in 2012.

afterall, there is a principle named after him.

Alabama's defense and secondary has gone down considerably since Pruitt departed with two DB coaches in Smart & Saban.

Met Jerry a couple times during his time in Ann Arbor. Awesome person. Incredibly friendly person. Wish him all the best
January 6th, 2015 at 1:03 PM ^
>Seemed like the wheels kinda fell off the Hoke bus once he left.
I was thinking that as well
January 6th, 2015 at 1:07 PM ^
Good for him. OU looks like a train wreck right now. Being so close to Oklahoma I can tell you fans are not happy. A lot of them want Stoops fired.
January 6th, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
GREAT opportunity for him. Big congrats to Jerry!
...b/c I'm sure he's reading this.

The prevailing opinion of talking heads on the sports radio here in Oklahoma, is his greatest skillset is in recruiting--that's not to say that he's not a good d-line coach, but it's his recruiting that has made him indispensable to the OU football team.

I think Stoops needs to fire his brother completely and make Montgomery full DC. Their defense sucked this past year and Oklahoma fans were not too happy about it.
