I'd like to be able to block intra-conference coach transfers.

That means Murray is gone - either NFL draft or A's minor league.
Who is better Hurts or Fields ? Certainly, Hurts is more proven as a college player. Hurts would probably have been a better fit for OSU with Fields a better fit for OU.
It is starting to get like free agency with that 5th year transfer rule and a lax NCAA.

Yeah, he already declared.

I like the grad transfer rule. Lots of guys like Alex Malzone are even getting two years of eligibility if they graduate in three years. If you're buried on the depth chart and want to play, it gives more guys opportunity.
The Fields transfer is going to be the watershed. If the NCAA buys that Fields transferred for hardship rather than playing time, you are going to see hundreds of guys suddenly facing "hardships" next year. That really would be free agency and I think it would be chaos. Lots riding on that Fields decision and I would not want to be on the board trying to decide it because those Buckeye fans are truly deranged people.

From the ncaas perspective they will get crucified if they deny the waiver, but a ton of extra work in sorting through hardship waivers going forward if they accept. Look for a rule change soon, regardless of what they do.

Field's not getting the waiver and OSU being in a mess with QBs would be the karma they've deserved for years.

OU only pursued one transfer QB. Hurts. I think the downside to Fields is he has more than 1 year of eligibility. OU has the top QB in this recruiting class signed, but he's not on campus until summer, so they just someone who could groom him for a year. I think the signing is a perfect scenario.

good choice...
Riley really has the Midas touch when it comes to QBs... frankly surprised that Fields didn't go there myself
January 16th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
He would've been crazy to go anywhere other than the school that has produced back-to-back Heisman winners and (probable) high first-round picks at the QB position.
January 16th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
No kidding, what QB wouldn't want to go to Oklahoma after the last two seasons?
January 16th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
And just like that, they're back in the playoff.
January 16th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Can't hurt ou
January 16th, 2019 at 1:49 PM ^
He put up video game numbers at Alabama, so I assume he'll do the same at OU. But it's going to be weird for him watching the other team score just as quickly.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:05 PM ^
Interesting, albeit not surprising for a Texas kid. I think conventional wisdom was expecting a Texas school or Maryland, but lots of TX kids go to OU.

Alabama Forever which is why I'm leaving for Oklahoma.

Not sure he can be coached up further, but that's the best place for him if he's not reached his full potential.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:04 PM ^
That hurts the rest of the Big 12. (*1,000,000th "hurts" pun!!)
January 16th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
I like Jalen Hurts. Seems like a great kid with strong character who has handled his situation well. I'm rooting for him to succeed (except when Michigan crosses paths with him, if that ever happens).
January 16th, 2019 at 3:44 PM ^
Wonder if QB recruiting will be such a priority in the future. If you're Michigan and you need a good QB it seems like something will be available at the end of every season. Conversely put too many QB's on your roster and your bound to lose 1 or 2 of them.

Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Michigan in the playoff next year. Could be facing Hurts in the 1st round.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
But but but I thought only Michigan took grad transfer QBs.

So Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia/Ohio state again in the mix for playoff again.....boring
