OT: Iron Man 2

Submitted by jokenjin on

Just wanted to say that Iron Man 2 was really good - pretty much on par with the first movie. Scarlet Johanson looks amazing in the movie and it flows very well. Make sure you stay until the end of the movie for the scene after the credits. It leads to the next big Marvel movie coming out.

PS - favorite part of the experience: when the Eclipse trailer came on, EVERYONE booed. High hilarity.

of the marketing materials that have been all over the internet for the movie? ScarJo was pretty prominent in all of them and was looking WAY HOT!

To the OP, thanks for the heads up on staying past the closing credits. I never have the patience to do that unless I know that I'm going to be rewarded with an interesting tidbit. I'm guessing it is about the upcoming Avengers project?

I've been pumped all year long to see this movie and i'm glad to hear from someone who has seen it and it still lives up to the hype.

This movie is pretty amazing.  Robert Downey again plays the perfect Tony Stark.  I actually was not looking forward to Don Cheadle when I first heard he was going to be Rhodey, but he was a pleasant surprise.  He is no Terrance Howard, don't get me wrong, but I thought he did well as War Machine.

PS - Mickey Rourke was fantastic.  That is all.

I liked it as well. Robert Downey Jr. does such a great job. I don't know if Iron man would work without Robert Downey Jr. Yes Scarlett Johansson looks amazing and does a good job. The only complaint I had was that it seemed like they were trying to insert to many characters into the movie. Other than that I liked and it is good summer fun.

@jokenjin: That is so weird that you mentioned everyone booing for the Eclipse trailer. I went to a 12:01 am showing of Iron Man 2 and everyone booed the Eclipse trailer at that showing as well. Good stuff.

I was also at a midnight showing (and at work by 9am wooo!!!), we also had a loud chorus of boos rain down when the Eclipse trailer came on.

Overall I liked the movie a lot. I thought the CGI was better in this one than the previous one. I think the plot was a bit too forced in this one as compared to the first. Would definetly get two thumbs up for me.

Oh and concur on Scarlett Johansson being incredibly hot.

How was Mickey Rourke? I find that people either love him or hate him. Was he a good villian? BTW, what is the next Marvel comic to come out as a movie?

I saw it last night too.  Really good movie - just slightly below the first one.  Johanson and Paltrow both looked really good.  Scene after the credits was awesome.  Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic.  Not as high quality as the batman series, but definitely the most fun series of movies to watch - really good time.

Without getting into a long movie review, real good sequel. Not perfect, and doesn't set a new standard the way the first one and Dark Knight did the year before, but a lot of fun.

I told my wife we needed to stay till the end of the credits, which we did, and then she had NO idea who Thor was. I said, "Well, you saw in the movie where they were talking about the Avengers?" "Yeah." "Well, he was one of the Avengers." "The who?" "The comic books. They were a series. It correlated with Shield and the Iron Man stuff." "Wait, what? Iron Man was a comic book?"

from a movie before as i did with iron man 2. wen he picked up captain america's shield i was like "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" then he used it to balance the pipes i was like "OH COME ON" then laughed it off followed by curiosity as to how they are going to tie in iron man for the capt america movie. pretty impressive. good movie too, 8.7/10(final fight scene with russian dude could have gone on longer, just like the first iron man's final fight scene).

Check out this clip.  You can see Captain America (barely) at the end.  I'm assuming this is what you were referring to in your post, so this is more for everyone else.

Also, if anyone went to see IM2 already and didn't stay until the end, you see that scene here:

I haven't seen IM2 yet but I'm going tonight.  $6 IMAX tickets on Tuesdays (Carpenter Rd. Theater) FTW.

Hmmm, I think that one may be a stretch...a little bit too much like a Bigfoot video.  But fun nonetheless.  :-)

My reference was that I expect at the end of Cap (or maybe after the credits...though maybe not till the beginning pre-credits of Avengers) that we'll see him thrown into the ocean, to go into suspended animation, till...now.

While it was the Sub-Mariner who through his frozen block of ice body into the ocean, I can easily see the Hulk as a de facto replacement.  So, I don't know if they meant to put it in that movie...but they've got the right idea.  And then at the beginning of the Avengers (either precredits, if already done in Cap movie, with big reveal on Shield leading to credits) or after credits if they don't end the other movie on him freezing (do all of it before the credits, then have the credit montage of passing time, to end with him being tossed in Ocean) will lead to the rest of the Avengers finding his body, thawed/ing.  And then we really roll.

Now if we could just get them to recast the shitty Captain America they've chosen....

but everything I've read about the clip says that is meant to be Captain America.  Doesn't necessarily mean its true of course.  The thing I don't get from the Iron Man movies though is where did he get the Captain America shield from?  Stark doesn't seem to know what is is but its been in his workshop for both movies now.

I think he just doesn't particularly care. More interested in it as a paperweight. I mean, this is a guy who puts Obamaized Iron Man art up in the place of classics, and gives art away to the Boy Scouts. If that's the shield, and not just an Easter egg. I mean, it's not a perfect match. Only partly colored right, and looks kinda clear at parts. It could be a throwaway. Or maybe Cap falls into the drink separated from his shield. It seems like just the type of oddity Stark would acquire. And analyze it's unique properties.

I went to see it on Friday night.  Maybe I'm the only one, but I've never been that enthralled with Scarlett Johansson.  She was definitely in good shape for the role, but eh...she just doesn't do it for me.  I'm more into brunettes, though, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Mickey Rourke is a giant douchebag, but he made an excellent villain.  This was also one of the few roles where I've liked Sam Rockwell (along with "The Green Mile"); together with the director of "Choke," those two ruined the movie adaptation of one of my favorite books.

Did anybody else find it extremely cheesy when Rhodey went downstairs during the party, put on his War Machine suit, and then returned to the party saying, "I'm only going to say this once - get out"?  That line (and that scene in general) was just too ridiculous for my liking.  Otherwise, I thought the movie was excellent.

You know, I completely forgot about that.  That's a strange connection.  I watched the special features on the "Choke" DVD and saw the discussion between Clark Gregg and Chuck Palahniuk, but I forgot that he's the same dude.

Well . . . Clark Gregg sucks then.  He should stick to acting and leave the directing to capable directors.

Scarlett- HOT

Downey- the movies wouldnt be as good w/o him

Rourke- Love the guy.  When he's in a scene his presence steals the show.  And he's BA.

Plot- Did this movie really have one?  The only "plot" is the whole avengers thing which is only like 5 minutes of the movie sadly.  Otherwise it was fast, slightly witty conversations, a few long action scenes.

No where NEAR the Dark Knight sequel.  Worth a rent.  Really looking forward to more focus on the avengers, and it looks like theres only 2 more movies to go (Captain america, and Thor).

Saw it today.  It was much on par with the first one.  It kept my attention during the whole 2 hours and was a great movies, however, it didn't have that "it" factor about it to make it a special movie.  I think it's more or less that the movie doesn't really make you care about the characters that much.  Sure, you root for them, but you don't ever really care for them.

I personally highly reccomend Kick-Ass.  I've seen it twice now and wish to see it again.  Great movie.

Did anybody else have kind of a sick feeling when they showed video of other suits "in development", and they had the video of the Hammer developed suit? I can watch any gruesome movie and not be bothered a bit, but something about the idea of a volunteer test pilot suddenly being twisted in two because of a malfunction... creepy. I hated that.
