OT: I served Lloyd Carr dinner tonight

Submitted by mejunglechop on
This probably isn't boardworthy, but it was cool/funny to see the middle aged adults at his table hanging on his every word like little kids do. Plus I'm still excited at my luck. I didn't say anything to him, and I didn't eavesdrop, because I'm not like that. The only thing football-related I overheard him say was that he thought Tate was absolutely great, but if it were up to him Cone would get more playing time after his performance against DSU. Disclaimer: One of these sentences is true only in my heart.

"but if it were up to him Cone would get more playing time after his performance against DSU." Lloyd always did have a soft spot for men that could spit mad rhymes in his face.

Just out of curiosity, where was he dining? I know I've seen him going into/leaving Palio at least 3 times. It appears that the man appreciates his Italian food.

Well speaking for League catering it is shitty shitty shitty. Almost all our most experienced and best employees are recent graduates. We're going to have to hire a bunch of newbies, who won't have the benefit of learning from the best so there are going to be major major growing pains and there's just no way it's going to be as good as it is now.

That's about what I figured the all-around response would be. I keep no secret about my identity here, nor the fact that I catered the Union. I have a few friends there that are getting, for lack of a better phrase, royally fucked in the ass in this situation. I understand UU's need/desire/compulsion to be a student employer, but the way they're treating loyal employees of three, four, even five or more years is just absurd. They pride themselves on the level of their service and then they turn around and take the very people responsible for providing said service and put them flat on their asses, out of a job. It defies all logic. Y'all should band up and go talk to Keith Soster - or, better yet, John Taylor - about the whole thing. Give'em hell ;)

I used to be a catering server and bartender at the League, from about 01 to 04. That was an awesome college job, I probably spent 50% of my time there intoxicated at some level. Went back about 3 years ago on a break from a recruiting trip and apparently everybody I knew had been fired due to some scandalous orgy involving the rugby team. Good times.

I used to play rugby at the U and actually was at the League that night that the alleged incident took place that resulted in the firing of some friends. There wasn't an orgy, just a lovely wedding that shared an adjacent ballroom to a rugby banquet that allegedly viewed a member of said team having intercourse on the balcony in plain view of the wedding reception. And no, I was not the alleged player, although I did have a great time that night.

Well, it's the League's fault--who lets a rugby banquet have a room next to a wedding? Don't get me wrong, I love rugby players; lived with a member of the club back in grad school, dated some rugby players.... they clean up nice but when you get them together in a group you don't put 'em anywhere with nice furniture, or nearby genteel bridal parties.

Seems like he was pretty professional. He didn't even talk to Mr. Carr. I don't see how you would get fired for talking about serving the guy dinner. I think you should let the man that let the other man live his life, live his own life.

I served President Coleman, Coach Carr, Coach Berenson, and many, many others whilst working at the Union as a caterer. Enough to know, as an example, that President Coleman prefers decaf coffee with her dessert. That doesn't mean the server in question is nagging them with questions.

Six times over the two years I acted as a server (I did little serving when I became a student manager). The implication is there yes, however - that's not necessarily something I would take the time to remember unless serving her multiple times (and I didn't catch on until the third). Serving as a caterer is very, very different from serving in a restaurant.

I bartended on Gary Moeller once. No...wait, actually that was Wayne Fontes. It was former Lions QB Eric Hipple that was the massively Drunk Guy. One of those sentences above is not true. The other 2 are.

Is his dinner choice as conservative as his play calling? Did he go for the chicken breast with non-descript brown gravy? Did he go a little crazy with the Chilean Sea Bass served with a mango chutney? If he did, then why didn't he let Henne throw more in the 2005 OSU game? Damn it, these are the questions and answers that MgoBloggers desire!!

I think it's extremely telling that Lloyd was silent as to the quality of his meal. Lloyd Carr could clear up this controversy about whether he enjoyed his beef tenderloin at the end of the meal by stopping MeJungleChop, and saying "Mr. Chop, I thought the beef was delicious, tender, and juicy - you and your co-workers are truly a credit to the food-service industry." However, Mr. Carr has chosen to remain silent on this matter. It makes me think he's leading the secret cabal that seeks to undermine the Union Caterers.

The best coach Michigan has had since Bo. If i were you i would have asked carr if he could come back and coach the team. NC 1997. Oh ya i forgot we got RR as coach. Crap! 1-6 agaisnt OSU,MSU,PSU, and ND. And might i add that ND is a really good football team.
