OT -Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon dies

Submitted by MGoGrendel on

George "Meadowlark" Lemon, the basketball star who entertained millions of fans around the world with his antics as a longtime member of the Harlem Globetrotters, died Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 83.

Lemon played 24 seasons and by his own estimate more than 16,000 games with the Globetrotters, the touring exhibition basketball team known for its slick ball-handling, practical jokes, red-white-and-blue uniforms and multiyear winning streaks against overmatched opponents.

RIP.
I will always remember the first time I saw them. They put on a great show. Clean act.
35 years ago that was one of a few entertaining things to do. Nowadays kids probably think that's boring. My bro n I ate that stuff up!

So sad.  I feel in love with basketball watching the him and the Globetrotters growing up.  From my dad taking me to see them to watching them on the various Scooby Doo episodes, My best friend, brothers, and I would try our best to dribble and be crazy like they did.  Hats off to Meadowlark...he will always be remembered.

I don't know that I ever saw him, as I'm not sure the first time I saw the 'trotters. They all have a special place in my heart, though. Especially Bubblegum Tate and the gang.

When I was a kid my dad used to take me to see the Globetrotters whenever they came to Olympia Stadium in Detroit. Meadowlark and Curly Neal were worth the price of admission. RIP Mr. Lemon.

I took my son to see them when he around 5 or 6. Great seats a few rows back. He fell for the confetti in the bucket gag, he just knew he was getting a soaker.  Life long memory for him.
