OT: Happy Festivus!

Submitted by ChopBlock on

Happy Festivus everyone!

The traditional activities of Festivus will of course come later today, but first we must pause to note the Festivus miracles ocurring around us. Specifically:

  • The Lions will not lose today
  • The 25th of December falls on a Tuesday this year, which means most people get a long (4-day) weekend
  • The Mid-American Conference is attempting to trademark the term #MACtion (LINK)
  • My ESPN MGoBowl pick-em is in great shape so far

BONUS: You can buy a commercialized version of the unadorned Festivus pole, and it'll cost you 40 bucks for the privilege (LINK). Seems a little antithetical to the spirit of the holiday, does it not?

So how are you celebrating Festivus? Anybody celebrating in "real life"?

Congrats on finishing up! also, OCS as in officer candidate school? If so what branch?

I'm doing biochem/premed. It keeps me busy, but I enjoy it (for the most part), and it makes me enjoy my free time all the more. I'm just excited that my next semester should be really light (relatively at least), so my final semester should be pretty relaxed, so hopefully I can make it to all the basketball games.

"Festivus"---it starts at 6 o'clock?

(Guide, me, Landru---I know not how to embed)

Festivus miracle, or mods with a good prescription? You can decide.

I have tons of issues with you people. Where do I start?

1. Jesus H Christ tapdancing on a cracker, grow a backbone and not go with the mgoClan on every issue. I know it is cool to support the popular side of every issue. The world is in shades of grey. Dave Brandon has done great things for the athletic department and has had huge misses.

2. Bring back the old moderation system. The current system blows and rerquires more oversight from the mods. Heck we lost one mod due to the moronicy of mgopleutocracy following the Nebraska game. I think we all remember the fun of pos and neg banging threads.

3. WTF is up with posting a thread when an athlete from our rivals gets sent to the poke. Glass houses people, especially this season (which was not good for us personally).

I clicked on the link in the OP- I loved that there was a Festivus Pole Lot, similar to a Christmas tree lot.  I love the thought of taking the kids down to pick out a pole, that is exactly identical to the other 50 poles standing side by side.

I didnt know we were allowed to Mgotimetravel with our grievences....In THAT case where are three of my bigger historical Festivus complaints....

1. Touchdown USC! Well that is if the 3 yard line counts as the end zone.

1.

2. Biggie Munn of MSU votes OSU in over Michigan for the Rose Bowl 1973...

3. Mike Lantry's game winning kick against OSU in 1974 somehow ruled wide right despite splitting the uprights

I'd like to air a few grievances with:

  1. ESPN radio. What's with all the same old stories about the Yankees, Jets, Tebow, and Lakers? ESPN radio content is like the HUMANCENTiPAD, I get the same message at 6am as I do at 10pm that night from the same overpaid airhead analysts. There's more sports coverage from 10 minutes a week on NPR than from 24/7 ESPN radio.
  2. Lions fans: I can't believe people are still being duped by William Clay Ford Sr and Jr. I mean don't you realize these two are continuing the greatest sports prank of all time. They're goal is to profit from the worst run franchise in American history and ruin the careers of top draft picks. The fans don't know the Fords are Packers shareholders aiming to create more wins for Green Bay.
  3. People who are intolerant of other cultures. And the Dutch.

Grievances:

1. All of the people who complain about the uniforms like it is the end of the world. I really just do not get it.

2. All of people who complain about Dave Brandon being the worst thing ever. This is especially the case with Brian, who almost seems to be looking for things to hate.

3. All the people calling for the firing of Borges before he has his system implemented whatsoever and has a shitty mcshit o-line.

4. People who wear skinny ties just look ridiculous. Stop it.

My grievance: ESPN transforming over the last ten years into:

90%: Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys, Tebow coverage.

10%: All other sports coverage.

Many Christmases ago, Frank went to buy a doll for his son. He reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As Frank rained blows upon him, he realized there had to be another way. A new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!

And thus is the tale of Festivus

1. fans who think they know more than the coaches.
2. Criticism about the physical attractiveness of female athletes.
3. "special" uniforms
4. Dudes on tv that look like George Costanza that always have hot girlfriends and wives. (you never see overweight, unattractive women with hot guys, so what gives? )

Grievances?
  1. Boring, too long posts.
  2. Not enough pictures in posts.
  3. Bad writing (as compared to bad grammar.)
  4. Complaining.
  5. Piling on the writers of stupid posts.

Seriously, I don't have much to complain about. This is my favorite blog, and probably the only thing I really don't like is when there isn't as much content as I want to devour.

I've got a lot of problems with you people, and now you're gonna hear about it!

  • Using ellipses (dot dot dot) instead of actual punctuation. There's a time and place for it, but after every sentence isn't cool
  • Poor use of the English language: they're/their/there, you're/your, no capitalization, etc.
  • Obnoxious signatures. Boldface and large font just really aren't necessary
  • Whoever has that dang moving mouse as their signature (same goes for that bug avatar)
  • Skanky pictures. I'm totally with StephenRKass on this one.
  • the /s tag. It kills the humor of any post it's attached to, and if you need to use it to get across the sarcasm, you should probably rephrase it better (yeah, dissecting a frog and all that)

And I like you too.

I'm actually following that philosophy. My Dad brought me a Belgium beer, which is not my favorite style. But I need to try some new stuff, right?
