OT: Happy Festivus!
Happy Festivus everyone!
The traditional activities of Festivus will of course come later today, but first we must pause to note the Festivus miracles ocurring around us. Specifically:
- The Lions will not lose today
- The 25th of December falls on a Tuesday this year, which means most people get a long (4-day) weekend
- The Mid-American Conference is attempting to trademark the term #MACtion (LINK)
- My ESPN MGoBowl pick-em is in great shape so far
BONUS: You can buy a commercialized version of the unadorned Festivus pole, and it'll cost you 40 bucks for the privilege (LINK). Seems a little antithetical to the spirit of the holiday, does it not?
So how are you celebrating Festivus? Anybody celebrating in "real life"?

Congrats on finishing up! also, OCS as in officer candidate school? If so what branch?
I'm doing biochem/premed. It keeps me busy, but I enjoy it (for the most part), and it makes me enjoy my free time all the more. I'm just excited that my next semester should be really light (relatively at least), so my final semester should be pretty relaxed, so hopefully I can make it to all the basketball games.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:58 PM ^
Just finished up my last semester and definitely did the "Senior year, Slacker year" thing. Worked my butt off in past years and it paid off; I took rock climbing and backpacking classes this fall.

You'll need to remember to invite some MGoPosters to all your fancy parties when you're a doctor. I'm sure BlueDragon will be sending out invites when he's done.
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
Duly noted. But for now I have to first become a doctor, but until then, fancy party plans are on the back burner, and I'll be sticking with college parties.
December 24th, 2012 at 1:29 PM ^
For sure, everybody's invited when I get my MD degree!
December 24th, 2012 at 1:43 PM ^
Maybe you could fix my knee for MGoPoints.

"Festivus"---it starts at 6 o'clock?
(Guide, me, Landru---I know not how to embed)
Festivus miracle, or mods with a good prescription? You can decide.

- Click "share" and "embed" on YouTube
- Switch MGoBlog to plain text editor
- Copy/paste embed code into comment box

Feats of strength
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
I have tons of issues with you people. Where do I start?
1. Jesus H Christ tapdancing on a cracker, grow a backbone and not go with the mgoClan on every issue. I know it is cool to support the popular side of every issue. The world is in shades of grey. Dave Brandon has done great things for the athletic department and has had huge misses.
2. Bring back the old moderation system. The current system blows and rerquires more oversight from the mods. Heck we lost one mod due to the moronicy of mgopleutocracy following the Nebraska game. I think we all remember the fun of pos and neg banging threads.
3. WTF is up with posting a thread when an athlete from our rivals gets sent to the poke. Glass houses people, especially this season (which was not good for us personally).
December 23rd, 2012 at 4:32 PM ^
Agree with you for the most part, though I have one relevant grievance: (50) Shades of Grey references. They've made to NPR, and now MGoBlog.

Please direct donations to The Human Fund.
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:58 AM ^
My grievance is with the mobile app. The first comment under the post is and the end of the page instead of the top.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:56 AM ^
I agree, the App sucks. It doesn't refresh unless it feels like it, which makes the refresh button pointless. Bring back the old app! FESTIVUS!
December 23rd, 2012 at 1:24 PM ^
You can make that change in the login screen.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:12 AM ^
My grievance:
Everyone needs to chill the f*ck out...on everything.
That is all.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
My grievance: Replacing a simple "." at the end of a comment with "that is all."
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:23 AM ^
I clicked on the link in the OP- I loved that there was a Festivus Pole Lot, similar to a Christmas tree lot. I love the thought of taking the kids down to pick out a pole, that is exactly identical to the other 50 poles standing side by side.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:33 AM ^
Time is no barrier when it comes to airing Festivus grievances.
December 23rd, 2012 at 11:54 AM ^
I didnt know we were allowed to Mgotimetravel with our grievences....In THAT case where are three of my bigger historical Festivus complaints....
1. Touchdown USC! Well that is if the 3 yard line counts as the end zone.
1.
2. Biggie Munn of MSU votes OSU in over Michigan for the Rose Bowl 1973...
3. Mike Lantry's game winning kick against OSU in 1974 somehow ruled wide right despite splitting the uprights
December 23rd, 2012 at 2:23 PM ^
I'm still pissed about the phantom touchdown.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
I'd like to air a few grievances with:
- ESPN radio. What's with all the same old stories about the Yankees, Jets, Tebow, and Lakers? ESPN radio content is like the HUMANCENTiPAD, I get the same message at 6am as I do at 10pm that night from the same overpaid airhead analysts. There's more sports coverage from 10 minutes a week on NPR than from 24/7 ESPN radio.
- Lions fans: I can't believe people are still being duped by William Clay Ford Sr and Jr. I mean don't you realize these two are continuing the greatest sports prank of all time. They're goal is to profit from the worst run franchise in American history and ruin the careers of top draft picks. The fans don't know the Fords are Packers shareholders aiming to create more wins for Green Bay.
- People who are intolerant of other cultures. And the Dutch.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
So I take it you've recently moved to West Michigan?
December 23rd, 2012 at 6:24 PM ^
Haha. I'm actually Dutch and grew up in West Michigan.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:13 PM ^
Grievances:
1. All of the people who complain about the uniforms like it is the end of the world. I really just do not get it.
2. All of people who complain about Dave Brandon being the worst thing ever. This is especially the case with Brian, who almost seems to be looking for things to hate.
3. All the people calling for the firing of Borges before he has his system implemented whatsoever and has a shitty mcshit o-line.
4. People who wear skinny ties just look ridiculous. Stop it.
December 23rd, 2012 at 1:18 PM ^
5. Everyone who comments on the M brand as if it is a bad thing...
December 23rd, 2012 at 2:30 PM ^
Regarding Number 4, I'm not sure I should take fashion advice from a blue-skinned person
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:40 PM ^
the blue man group is pretty popular.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
grievance: I just ran out of beer and the Avengers 2 is not coming out for another couple of years.
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:29 PM ^
My grievance: ESPN transforming over the last ten years into:
90%: Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys, Tebow coverage.
10%: All other sports coverage.
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM ^
Needs some mods to limit their amount of political coverage too.

Many Christmases ago, Frank went to buy a doll for his son. He reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As Frank rained blows upon him, he realized there had to be another way. A new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!
And thus is the tale of Festivus
December 23rd, 2012 at 7:23 PM ^
That must have been some doll!
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
Happy Festivus!
December 23rd, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
1. Rogaine! You promise me so much, yet you deliver me so little.
2. Squirrels! Stop haunting me in my dreams!
3. 12/21/12!
December 23rd, 2012 at 1:30 PM ^
Presented without comment:

OT- Leon Hall just had a TAINT (Touchdown After INT)
December 23rd, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
And Mike Martin just sacked Aaron Rodgers
December 23rd, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
1. fans who think they know more than the coaches.
2. Criticism about the physical attractiveness of female athletes.
3. "special" uniforms
4. Dudes on tv that look like George Costanza that always have hot girlfriends and wives. (you never see overweight, unattractive women with hot guys, so what gives? )
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:06 PM ^
- Boring, too long posts.
- Not enough pictures in posts.
- Bad writing (as compared to bad grammar.)
- Complaining.
- Piling on the writers of stupid posts.
Seriously, I don't have much to complain about. This is my favorite blog, and probably the only thing I really don't like is when there isn't as much content as I want to devour.
December 23rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM ^
I've got a lot of problems with you people, and now you're gonna hear about it!
- Using ellipses (dot dot dot) instead of actual punctuation. There's a time and place for it, but after every sentence isn't cool
- Poor use of the English language: they're/their/there, you're/your, no capitalization, etc.
- Obnoxious signatures. Boldface and large font just really aren't necessary
- Whoever has that dang moving mouse as their signature (same goes for that bug avatar)
- Skanky pictures. I'm totally with StephenRKass on this one.
- the /s tag. It kills the humor of any post it's attached to, and if you need to use it to get across the sarcasm, you should probably rephrase it better (yeah, dissecting a frog and all that)
December 23rd, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
I think you're talking about me...
December 23rd, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
No, I like you. You inspire me to not just drink the same cheap boring beer every single time.
December 24th, 2012 at 11:10 AM ^
I have to disagree: That moving mouse if probably my favorite signatures lines of all time. Its fun, mesmerizing, and annoying all at the same time!
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:19 PM ^
And I like you too.
I'm actually following that philosophy. My Dad brought me a Belgium beer, which is not my favorite style. But I need to try some new stuff, right?
December 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 PM ^
Because if your beer is the same cheap, boring stuff I hope that Belgian was flown in on a G550 with an escort of brewmasters.
December 24th, 2012 at 2:53 AM ^
Belgian!
