OT: Halloween fun

Submitted by TrueMaize on

Well, It's the best time of year! Football is in full swing... Michigan is going to stomp Sparty under the lights on prime time, Lions are doing their annual fluffing of the fans by getting some wins and looking good early, and the Pistons and Red wings have a new home in LCA (which is absolutely gorgeous, what an upgrade for both teams!)

So this brings me to my questions... what haunted attractions in Michigan are your favorites? Which are scariest and which ones are duds? Favorite cider mill?

Personally, I grew up going to Montrose Apple Orchard... so I make it a point to go there once or twice a year to get a bag of fresh apple and pumpkin donuts. My lady likes to go for the local craft tent sale on the 15th of October. As far as haunted attractions I'm a fan of Wiards in Ypsi... I think they do a great job every year. What say you MgoBrethern and Sistren?

Wasem's fruit farm in Milan is my favorite. Small, rustic, no gimmicks, no rides. Pick your own apples, great doughnuts and cider. Live in California now and haven't been able to find good cider or any cider doughnuts. Any norcal folks know of any?

How far north we are talking... but there's Covers in Sonora I believe. My ex's family took me to a place called Abels... not sure where it was up there but pretty good stuff. But sorry to say just didn't compare to Michigan apple orchards

My man. Wasem's is the best kept secret in SE Michigan. I live near Parmenters, have been to Wiard's countless times, have tried Dexter/Franklin/etc. None of them stack up to Wasem's for donuts.

Plus, I love how BIG CIDER MILL hasn't turned the place into a stupid carnival atmosphere that costs $100 to take a family of 4 on a football Saturday.

but my favorite haunt is my front yard.

I spend about 14-16 hours putting up a haunted graveyard for the trick-or-treaters to enjoy, with an inflatable haunted house (full sound effects), skeletons climbing the side of the house, animatronic ghosts and ghouls hanging from the trees, several thousand lights, fake cobwebs and oversized spiders, etc.

Get lots of families that come by to see it every year.

Wasem's is usually our Go To since we're on the south side of Ann Arbor. We went for donuts and cider last weekend...it was very busy. No frills type of place, but if you can get the blueberry glazed donuts you'll never go anywhere else. We bought some of their popcorn this weekend as well and it was excellent.

We're going to do Parmenter's maybe this weekend as we've heard good things (and a ton of good things in this thread).

Fantastic place with tons to do. Just really, really busy on October weekends, obviously.

...and they just built a wine tasting room in the past couple of years, so bonus points for that.

Terror on Tillson in Romeo is quite the sight to see. It it this old farmhouse street where every house decorates. They have pirate ships, insane asylums, haunted circuses, skeletons playing hockey, etc. Each house kind of has a theme. Like I said, totally not scary. But if you’re a fan of decorating for halloween then this is definitely a place to head too!!!

Plenty of things.  This weekend is Pulaski days so hit up any Polish hall on the West Side for cheap draft beer and stuff with sauerkraut on it.

Along the lines of the OP Robinette's is not bad.  Closer to town than some others like Schwallier's and Klackle's.

GR has a lot going on overall - tons of breweries & restaurants all over the area, some good music venues, etc.

I don't care for haunted stuff (boring), but this is for sure the best time of the year. Love autumn weather and football. Pumpkin ale and other autumn beers. It's just more fun.

I forget what it is called, and I haven't been back to it in years, but there used to be a haunted woods thing out near Pinckney that we would frequent every October, and I think part of made this one a bit eerie is that it was a rather lengthy walk in the woods. Almost two miles, we esitimated once, and I don't even think we went through the whole thing. I wonder if it is still around actually.

Crane's Apple Orchard in Fennville, MI (15 miles south of Holland). They have the best apple cider I have ever tasted, plus good pies and doughnuts.
