OT: Hail and Unite Pitch at Alumni Association Event

Submitted by teamgreg8 on

Tonight I went to the Alumni Association event for the Greater Detroit club since I moved back to the area recently.

The leader of the Hail and Unite venture, Mike Weinberg pitched the idea to the group of 25-30. Key points:

-Vision for this idea stemmed from "We are the World" song

-Not meant to replace what exists

-Meant to combine student efforts and musicians "connected" to the university

-Will be crowdfunded

-Weinberg will be presenting this to the Chicago and Los Angeles Alumni Associations, probably others as well, but those were the only ones listed

I know it's a controversial subject here; I write this post just to notify those headed to future Alumni Association gatherings.

For those keeping track, I despise this idea.

There are a few Michael Weinberg's on LinkedIn with Michigan connections. But one in particular, one fitting Mikey's age/class the best, lists "Entrepreneur and Visionary" as their current position/occupation. Ladies and gentlemen, we're dealing with either a great performance artist and we're all marks, or a complete monster.

Man what I would've given to have this asshat present his wonderful idea during our recent Cleveland alumni association outing attended by Brian, Seth,Big  Ed Muransky and Andy Cannavino.

...of a couple entrepreneurs I know. They stubbornly refuse to believe their business concepts really aren't that novel or, frankly, in much demand. As such, they will likely end up poor and frustrated in the end. I suspect this kid will end up much the same (at least regarding this wacky concept of his).

As long as the kid gets some backers (he's bound to get a few idiots just with the sheer amount of press they've received) he's in the black.

He's going to pocket the crowdfunding money then quietly shut the project down.

Frankly I'm pretty disappointed in the CSG and Alumni Associations for giving this kid a legitimate platform to peddle his bullshit.

that is exactly what this is.  And a pretty transparent attempt to gain some name recognition for himself with the alumni base.

This guy is a fucking moron.  No one likes his stupid idea and he either doesn't understand that, or doesn't care.  If I ever saw him in a job interview I'd laugh him out of the room.

please post it here.

is it uncharitable to ask that the 'hail/unite' dudes get a social disease and are then too busy with that to bother the rest of us?  okay, i'll try to be nicer.
