Obviously there are different levels, but the point of this thread is that Baylor people let their blatant homerism interfere with justice. I wasn't making the point it happens at UM too, I am making the point that it is currently suspected that our admin aren't being the Leaders and Best at preventing and reporting sexual assault on campus. That we may let our homerism interfere with justice, a point your comment helped prove.

Ray and Ellen Deaver are the parents of current Waco mayor, Kyle Deaver

Rondy Gray is a local Waco banker

Jim and Nell Hawkins have their name on the Baylor indoor tennis facility; Claude and Becky Lindsey underwrote one of the courts in the facility.

Paul and Carol McClinton donated over a million towards the construction of an auditorium named after them inside a Baylor business school building.

Danny and Lenn Prince endowed a chair in the Baylor School of Social Work.

It's hardly surprising that these people—who undoubtedly know Starr personally and/or professionally—would take this public step. They're all in his general social/economic/political/cultural circle, and they're going to defend one of their own, regardless of how insane it may seem to those on the outside. This is the way the world works, for better or for worse.

Not shocked. Many people still think rape is the woman's "fault." Even more people flatly deny negative facts about things they care about.

It's important to keep in mind that his responsibilities far exceeded athletic department issues. He screwed up, he's facing consequences but unless some on here have effectively ran universities with perfect integrity, I would suggest that we keep the judgment to a minimum. The problem came to light, he was implicated and consequences were doled out, there is nothing wrong with alums thanking him for his other contributions to the university.

Yes, yes there is something wrong with taking a full ad in the paper proclaiming how much integrity Ken Starr has. This isn't one of those "don't rush to judgement" situations. If you want to thank him, thank him privately. Otherwise you're completely minimizing the suffering of the victims involved by elevating a man who did everything he could to dismiss them.
