Me.
But only when I'm in the shower, and no can hear me. Ever.
Username checks out.
We can make it.
Carl Lewis, & the guy from Crash Test Dummies.
I wanna say Brad something...
Tom Araya
Freddie Mercury.
*Edit. Forgot 2 and 3.
2. Etta James
3. Can't decide at this time. Marvin Gaye? Amy Lee?
But my issue with him and Queen is that their music is pretty but it has no soul. I am impressed and even awed by his range, but I cant imagine wanting to hear Freddie Murcury sing- not even "The Show Must Go On"- after the death of a loved one or after a break up.
I agree with all 3 of your choices as far as great singers, especially Maynard.
As much as I love Led Zepelin, I would put them in the same category that you put Queen in that you had an issue with.
after I lost a job of 20 years due to "Force Reduction" - AKA, had worked there long enough to be making too much money for the Dave Brandon types at my company to be able to collect large enough bonuses to feed their families properly. OK, yeah, I was a little bitter...but Freddy fit the bill perfectly for what I was feeling. Lots of soul there. Or maybe it was anger? :-)
You nailed it Freddie Fucking Mercury!
Are James Maynard Keenan, Johnny Cash, and Robert Plant.
Maynard James Keenan makes pseudo-intellectual music for adult pizza delivery drivers who still live in their parents' basement.
I've never seen him.more aptly described.
Maynard doesn't write the music.
Marvin Gaye for Motown
Sam Cooke for soul
Bon Scott for metal
When I was a kid my parents had a blue Chevy Malibu with an 8 track player. They wore out The Best of Sam Cooke and he was the first singer I really liked. To this day I still love that record (although I purchased it on CD).
"Change is Gonna Come" gives me chills just thinking about it.
Love This Song, and also more recently the cover by the recent rock revival explosion coming out of Frankenmuth, Michigan that is Greta Van Fleet!
Coincidence?
would make you fine sir, the king of cool.
Other timeless singers: Ray Charles, Al Green, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Aaron Neville.
Sam Cooke.
but I can't answer this without wanting a Female/Male split:
How about Stevie Nicks/Grace Slick/Janis for Rock
Diana Ross for Motown
Etta James for soul
I Don't Know for female metal singer - Suzy Quattro could beat me up (does she qualify as metal? Probably not.)
Then I'd pile through my collection and totally change my mind. Too much great music/singers to choose from.
The day Freddie Mercury gave it all for humanity!
Just can't wait for that movie to come out!
He’s gotta be the most versatile of singers. Any style, any range, any moment. He could do it all
Terry Reid- Seed of Memory is IMO one the greatest songs ever.
Dbw as the resident music snob I have to say I’m very impressed with the Terry Reid vote.
Aretha
Chester Bennington, Kurt Cobain, Ronnie Van Zant
Devin Townsend
Myles Kennedy
Forever stronger than all...........stronger than all
Randy Travis. Real country with no apologies.
Amen.
Forever and ever, Amen!
Based on singing talent and selection of music to show off her range, not based on choice of male companions, chemical dependency, or genral likeability. Sigh. What a waste.
Whitney could wail.
She was actually my number 4.
This is my number one with a bullet. No one could touch her in her prime. Her national anthem at the super bowl was perfect. Such a shame.
