OT: Giving Up MGoBlog For Lent

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
In my wife and I's growing attempt to set a good example for the kids, we've decided to give up an addiction for Lent. My wife agreed to give up The Bachelor and Grey's Anatomy, which required a gigantic trade off on my part. I'm sorry to my fellow MGoBloggers, but to rid my household of the estrogen evil that is those shows, sacrifices had to be made, so I'm forced to give up MGoBlog for Lent. All I ask, is that when Parker Westphal and Mason Cole commit, someone tip back a Molson and think of me and post the "we ain't got no time for dat shit" gif on a pointless topic. I hope you all have a great Lenten season, and to my fellow Catholics, fight the good fight against your vices. I'll see you on the other side, by which I mean after Easter, not the afterlife. Unless of course I get hit by a bus, then you can take that in the literal sense. For those who are interested: We did get some great news today. After three girls, we found out we're having a boy. Hooray decrease in pink and purple colors, hello Michigan room!

Well just head over to ESPN, 90% of the stuff they post about Michigan comes from here anyway and what doesn't come frome this site will eventually end up as a link here anyway.

I'm giving up all cooked food. (40 days of raw fruits & vegtables)  It will be a challenge but I hope to lose a few pounds during lent.  I'll have to avoid going to the local fish fry with my family if I hope to succeed.

Lent isn't even completely religious anymore.  I know plenty of people who give up things for lent as a popular society thing - these are non-Catholic, borderline cristian people.

I ate a doughnut by another name today and it was delicious, and I've only been in Catholic churches for weddings and funerals.  Is that a problem?

I have a friend who also has three girls and he's still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, they're going for four so he still has a chance.  As for Lent, nice job really sacrificing something important to you.  Remember, Lent has two parts, one is the sacrifice, the other is filling that same time with something else.  Hopefully you find something that satisfies your soul to fill the moments, maybe hours, you'll now have free.  Stay strong brother!

he will be well cared for by 3 big sisters.   make sure you take him to hockey/wrestling/football practice and don't let the girls dress him up in fu-fu stuff, could confuse him later on in life.

only 2 of ours are girls, the other 5 are sons.  can always hope for another daugther though.

My wife and kids are Catholic and the 3 of them give up chocolate for Lent each year.  Yes, in recognition of Jesus' 40 day fast in the desert....they give up dessert.   I am always filled with ahh and wonder at their grave sacrfice while we sit munching paczkis.

I tell my kids that since i Lent the church my time and money on holidays and the occasional Sunday that I like to collect Interest this time of year.  I do so by spending more time and effort on the things i enjoy.  Jesus approves.

...practicing Wolverine, which requires that I constantly frequent mgoblog to quench my thirst for everything that is maize and blue (and OT)! *However, I am extremely jealous that you have purged your household of the Bachelor and Grey's Anatomy.

About 4 or 5 years ago I have up all Michigan-themed websites and news stories. It was tough. I eventually found there were other things out there. I am far from a religious person, but I feel that doing something like this makes you a stronger person for non-moral purposes. Last year was beer (hard liquor was fine). This year: porn/nsfw stuff.

You can do it!!

You gave those up permanently. A fricking TV show for MgoBlog! Your soul may belong to Jesus, but your ass belongs to us. Tell your wife that this is a mans world! JK Don't! I am watching some dude from Thailand give the state of the union. I have to go puke after seeing the California reps. China, just a heads up; you can own us. They can't run a Goodwill let alone a military or government.....oops sidetracked.

You know, Valdemort, dressing them in pink and purple is entirely on you.  There's no XX chromosomal influence on color choice. Pure environment.

My 4 and 7 yr old XX chromosomers would much rather wear Maize and Blue than pink or purple!

Have a blessed lent, bro.

I can never think of good things to give up.  :(

Then I hear what other people are giving up and I'm like, "Oh, that's a good idea...  why didn't I think of that??"  But then I don't wanna give that thing up because it feels disingenuous because I'm copying someone else's Lent idea.....

I just fail at Christianity sometimes.
