OT: George Hill (assumed MSU future commit) commits to Pitt

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

Four star 2016 running back George Hill from Hubbard HS in Ohio was presumed to be a lock to commit to Sparty.  Not so much I guess:

He just committed to Pittsburgh.  May make sense since State's freshman running back has sort of cemented the starting job.

... I just googled "Best Micigan State Football Players Ever" to see if I could come up with a comparable list.  Short answer... no.  Slightly longer answer, Bleercher report has one of their annoying slide shows for Top 8 MSU player" and it includes Charlie Rodgers, Tony Manderich, and Morten Andersen.  No offense to Andersen, who is an all time great, but when a kicker makes your list of top 10 players ever... that's not a great story.  Others on the list that are actually pretty good include Andre Rison, Bubba Smith, and Flozell.

When googling the same for Michigan, the Bleecher Report article has a top 50 list with one honarable mention.  That honorable mention also happened to be a US. President.

I hate being that guy... But I think there is some validity to what your saying here. They've had the same strength and conditioning coach since before Bobby Williams. Now all of the sudden they are turning the same type of recruits into just monsters? Yeah... I dunno.

there is fire. Outside of L Bell (who is always hurt--no HGH that's a bummer) what are their guys doing at the next level?  Bullough and Gholston were monsters in college.  I am sure I am missing someone from those teams who is seeing some action (Langston is OK) but it's all very fishy to me.

Our guys are finding playing time all over the league.  I guess it's the great coaching over there ;)

Yep was a Sparty lean for a few months and up until last night was assumed to be headed to EL - Messiah apparently tweeted "good news coming".  Messiah ain't no Ahmir Mitchell.

Lots of young backs with holmes, LJ Scott and one other I can't remember so it makes sense for playing time.

in the future. As much as I enjoy the salty but sweet tears of Sparty, I hope former DC's don't make a habit of poaching presumed locked up commitments from their former schools.

I am sure Narduzzi paid him. JK. That was surpising. Along with Abdul Adams decomittment i don't believe they have a RB left in their class. Surprising since he was teammates with LJ Scott and everyone seemed to think he was a MSU lock.

fwiw Dantonio disrespekted Iowa today by offering one of their DL commits.  Apparently MSU has a few  "marginal" academic qualifiers in the class and is worried a few might fall out based on multiple new offers today.

The easy part is keeping these guys in EL and not going to classes.  The hard part is getting them thru the NCAA clearinghouse so that they may begin this era of classes optional.

Coming off a 11-1 regular season and a B1G championship and awaiting a final four playoff game and watching your recruits commit to other schools. All the while, your chief rival is landing top line recruits and heading for a top 5 class. That would be enough to put a chip on your shoulder.
