OT: favorite / least favorite ESPN personality

Submitted by turd ferguson on
Watching ESPN last night, it occurred to me that I'm annoyed by almost every person I ever see on that station, but it occupies 75% of my television viewing anyway. A friend and I were trying to identify the single most annoying ESPN personality – no easy task – and I thought I'd open it up here. In the spirit of not being mean without being nice, I'm calling for a favorite personality in addition to a least favorite personality. I'll take Mike Tirico as my favorite, since he’s knowledgeable, versatile, gimmick-free, and humble. On the other end of the spectrum, Jim Rome does a remarkable job of embodying almost every aspect of sports and humanity that I dislike. Thoughts?

Without question the most annoying to me is Stu Scott!!!

My favortie would have to be........... Mike Wilbon & Tony K.  They at least know what they are talking about and make it fun to watch.  I don't agree with all of their opinions but I do feel they are usually sound opinions.

I have a couple favorites and there are a few personalities who keep ESPN mellow.

Least favorite however I have to single out Cowherd and Rome. Both are arrogant and assholes. Never been a big fan of either.

Does Jemele Hill count?  She will appear on TV enough I think.  If so, I hate her.

Best writer: Bill Simmons (and I'm not anything close to a NE sports fan)

Best TV Guy: SVP (far and away the best)

Wilbon and Kornheiser do a nice job. Wilbon is the king of "What's the Word."

Least favorite: Pam Ward. Even if she wasn't so gaffe-prone, just the sound of her voice makes me want to throw babies into the ocean.

fave- Tirico (classy), Van Pelt (funny), Rece Davis (before the current "what if.." segments on College Football Live) DESMOND!

un-fave - Vitale, Berman (no more yelling, plz), Pam Ward (derf), Suzy Kolber (why can't her voice stop inflecting?)

also, it has been about 20 minutes since i heard Cowherd talk about the fact that there is no income tax in florida - does anyone know if this is still the case?

I like Van Pelt and Tirico as well, and I suppose my other favorite would be John Buccigross.  He is one of two anchors (with Steve Levy) whose sport of choice is hockey (which I love) and I enjoy his NHL column (or "blogumn") and mailbag on espn.com during hockey season.

I also can't stand Rome and Cowherd, and if I had to throw another in the mix of "least favorite" it would be Skip Bayless.  Is Bayless even still on that First Take show?  Is the show still running??  I wouldn't know, I couldn't stand watching it with him on there.

EDIT:  I kept thinking, and somehow I FORGOT about Rece Davis when I first posted...he is my favorite guy covering college football, and Desmond is a close 2nd.  I have to give props to Rece not only b/c I think he does a great job, but he used to cover sports for ABC 12 out of Flint, where I hail from.

Erin Andrews having slept with all (or at least most) of ESPN's TV personalities. Next time Erin Andrews is doing an on field report and doing her sign off, imagine this:

"I'm Erin Andrews and this is ESP..glog glog glog glog (the sound of Stu Scotts schlong in her mouth.)"

It always makes me laugh when I'm watching her reports...

Sounds pretty unanimous that Rome is a douchebag corksoaker.

Who's the little guy?  Lee Corso!   He's on ESPN, right.   Plus One for him if I got that right.

I fully support your nomination of John Anderson, but I can't do the same for Josh Elliot.  He seems condescending and snobby.  He also lets his personal beliefs (politics, upbringing, way of life) bleed too much into his coverage, which is what I try to avoid with my sports viewing.

Favorite: that skank hooker Rachel Nichols. She looks like she could take a dick.

Least favorite: that skank hooker Rachel Nichols when she open her mouth (unless to take aforementioned dick).

I don't mind Golic but Greenberg bugs the hell out of me.

I like Scott Van Pelt quite a bit -- especially his radio show.  He's my favorite ESPN personality.
