OT: Favorite Lake MIchigan Resort Town

Submitted by blockm97 on

Planning family vacation this summer.  Looking to meander from South Haven to St. Ignace and hit multiple resort/touristy towns along the way.

Make a case for your favorite town along/near that route.

Empire to Glen Arbor and north are all great places below the bridge. There's some cool places on the good side of Michigan (that's nort' of the Mackinac Bridge, and just sout' of heaven, for those of ya that don't know nothin') but at that point you might as well head to the Superior lake and really get your fill - from Grand Marais to Ironwood you can't go wrong.

Hit up the Cheese Shanty in Leland for a pretzal bread sandwich, cheese curds and a beer. They typically run out of pretzal bread by about 1 or 2 pm so plan accordingly.

just 15 minutes or so south of Ludington that should be on every MGoUser's radar: Weisenheimer Corners. With a name like that, I can imagine it being populated by numerous regulars on this board. And lots of Koalas inhabiting the nearby forests...

Partial to my hometown St. Joseph, BUT my favorite lake town would probably Mackinaw City/the outskirts on Lake Huron. Check Airbnb, I saw some nice rentals for not a lot of $$$ with lake frontage.

I've always loved Ludington but the drive from Manistee to Empire is incredible.  There is a great roadside scenic view just north of Arcadia on M-22.

Only one I have spent much time in is Manistee. Its a nice little place. My aunt says a lot of downstate money has moved in, idk how or if that has changed things. I know you can see a ton of new housing from City Beach
