It is a very slow night, so I thought I would give everyone a heads up. I scare easily and started panicing when I first saw it. Here is the slightly different team profile: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/130/cl... now the commit date is listed... If you like video games the new player format should please you. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/112612 ... The considering profile has received a much needed update. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/130/cl... ... New to the site is the offer list and visit list. Offers: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/130/cl... Visits: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/130/cl... Overall its a good update, this definitely makes Espn recruiting more user friendly.

I have a question about recruiting services and ranking systems that I think would fit well into this post.

Rivals, Scout, ESPN, 247, etc each have their own ranking systems, resulting in differences of opinion about how good players project to be.

What if there was a way to better quantify recruits rankings?

I was thinking of developing some kind ranking system that is based on offers that kids receive.

It would take some thought about how exactly to make it work, but it seems to me that the best high school players receive the most offers from the most successful schools.

Personally, I get much more excited when we get a kid with offers from OSU, ND, Bama, etc than seeing that they have 4 stars. To me, the offers a kid gets are indicative of the quality of player because if they have offers from all the top schools then that means they have been evaluated by each coaching staff and seen as able to contribute to their team.

You would have to find a way to quantify the success of all FBS teams and award a certain number of points to a recruit based on an offer from that school.

Mathlete, I'm looking at you! What do ya think?

I'm no expert with the maths, but I think some sort of network analysis could be really interesting, with players with like offers being grouped into clusters. I don't know if this would lend itself to an ordinal ranking, but it would be neat to see how the clusters shaped up -- I imagine you'd see some neat results with respect to the interplay of talent, regional location, and coaching ties.

Also, when you first click the NCAA fb link and when you go to click recruiting, there is a new drop down menu for team specific recruiting sites. Right now the only 2 up are USC and Texas. Could this be where Tom is headed?

According to the site, there are many more prospects "considering" Michigan than there were for a long time. It seems like to ESPN "considering" means 'has mentioned'.

The committed dates are all out of whack still.

The offers list and visit dates are an excellent upgrade.

Aren't those commit dates whack?   They show all of UM's commits committing on or after August 8.  It looks as if they started on that date and just gave all preexisting commits that date as a commitment date.

Am I missing anything?
