OT: Draft Day Trades, Releases (J Campbell a Raider)

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on
I cannot believe the Raiders picked up Campbell. For a fourth round pick in 2012 at that. I know their QB situation is anemic but why in the hell would you not just draft a QB. And yes I understand he was a steal but even then, he takes up a roster spot with too much salary baggage. Lions > Raiders In other news OL Alan Faneca was released by the Jets. Leon Washington and LenDale White were traded to the Seahawks LB .Kirk Morrison to Jacksonville (who's putting together a decent draft)

Are you serious? The Raiders need a good QB. There is no salary cap next year so salary isn't a factor. He's making a little more than 3 mill a year right now. As a Raider fan I am ecstatic. Obviously you didn't watch any Raider games last year.

They have him for 2 years. That is plenty of time to extend his contract if they deem him worthy. They are a lot closer than people think. Also, they have said how Campbell has had a new OC almost every year. His stats have improved at a good pace the last 3 years too. I'm not sure you have the right facts.

If you watched Redskin games, you are painfully aware of the decimated O-line that Campbell had in front of him. He spent as much time on his ass as he did on his feet. Samuels was hurt early in the year and there were several other key injuries to the offensive line. Campbell may never be a great QB, but with the tools, he can be decent and better than what the Raiders had.

You can't compare Jamarcus Russell (a brutally terrible player) with Jason Campbell (a merely average player). I watched the blood letting that was Russell at QB on a number of occasions last year and "god help me" a freshman Tate would have been a better option (for serious).

Why not draft a QB? They have other needs. They could have gotten Clausen in the second round, but then they wouldn't have Lamarr Houston, and they need a DT. They could have gotten McCoy in the third round, but then they wouldn't have Jared Veldheer, and they need OTs. Maybe it will turn out that they would have been better off with Clausen, but I think drafting for defense and trading for Campbell is reasonable.
