OT: Dexter Season Finale (Spoiler)

Submitted by Rico616 on

Did anyone watch Dexter? Damn I love that show! Too bad next season is the last. What happens to Dexter? Pretty much the three options are he dies, gets caught, or escapes somewhere.

That was a nice twist at the end. I did think the season took a lot of turns, bringing in a lot more characters than previous seasons with Hannah McKay pretty much being the constant. The Trinity Killer season was tops and probably wont be topped but this season ended up being pretty good too.

Last season of Dexter in 9 months and counting...

As Magnus and others mentioned above, the lack of "dark humor" has eroded too much, and without fail there will be a couple of episodes that flat out stink in all of the Dexter seasons.  I don't get why there is such a disconnect at times.

Overall, this has been a pretty interesting show.  And no offense, but I would take a show themed like this than any more Vampires, Sex in the City rip offs or shows emasucalting men.  Dexter has had a ton of great moments and great one liners.  One can interprete a lot of what's going via the human condition, and isn't hanging on one thing per se.  It is weird though when he doesn't kill anyone for a show or two.  You grow to expect it, and get frustrated in light of Dexter's frustration.

Deb has been frankly the most annoying charater, as well as Angel.  La Querta has been the bitchy minx schemeing of a woman that everyone loves to hate.  Hannah coming back in the final season doesn't really excite me, because now there are too many possibilities.  I just remember her telling Dexter that he should have killed me[when he had the chance, context].  That is going to play out either really badly for him, Harrison or for Deb; maybe everybody.

I am not really happy that they set-up a hook-up with Quinn and Jamie at the end.  I was hoping Dexter would finally be a cliche, but I guess that is just what I probably would do.

I could see a very Seinfield ending to the series, very anti-climatic. I guess as suggested above one could predict Deb killing Dexter.  I guess that would bring things full-circle to a degree.  If I was them, I would f-up the whole show and go for outrageousness.  I would love to see Dex finally admit to Deb or someone that he talks to Harry all the time.  Never is brought up.  They portray that symptom in an interesting light, suggesting Dexter doesn't even know consciously that he is doing it.

I didn't predict anything for season 8. Well then, Dexter weeps as he kills Hannah, after narrowly surviving a posioning attach.  A new kill emerges in South Beach, young woman, strange killing ritual.  Deb investigates murders, has another car incident.  Dexter tracks killer ultimately discovers her.  Dexter is killed by...Aster!  Deb discovers Aster standing over Dexter's dead body, shoots and arrests her. Deb balls her eyes out cussing non-sense and tells Dex she loves him again and again.  Dexter says it to her as he gasps for one last breath.  Deb rasies Harrison.  Last scene is her inner monologing while driving "Slice of Life" into the sunset.  Harrison becomes....

I'm kind of surprised at all the negativity surrounding the show in this thread.

Is it the best show on TV? No. Is it a top 5-10? I'd say yes, maybe higher depending on certain tastes.  Has it been able to top Trinity? No, but I thought 6 and 7 were damn good, even if season 5 was a let down. It's tough to top Trinity - that was probably the best single season of TV I've seen.

I think the most interesting thing is the clear transition from Dexter - the anti-hero, to Dexter - the villian.  You have to consider him a villian. Even though LaGuerta was annoying, she was annoying because she was right and at the time, we knew she was right, but didn't understand Dexter killed according to a code. That's no longer the case - he kills just as his mother's murderer killed: self-perserverance. He's a killer now, plain and simple.

That Deb became a killer is a tragic consequence of Dexter's faults.

Next season will be interesting. Do the writers appease fans and create a newly benevolent, friendly serial killer Dexter? Or do they complete the journey started last night and create Dexter a true villian. I hope the latter b/c it will be much more realistic and risky. Many people will not like Dexter becoming a villian, but I think that's the only way.

Side Note: Angel is the sole remaining "good" in Miami Metro and I'll throw myself in the camp that hopes he comes out on top.

Oh, and I can't believe people are whining so much about the supposed continuity error in Deb's dress not having blood on it.  Who fucking cares? I know sometimes that can take you out of the moment, but this is Dexter. It has a history of being sensational, especially in season-finishing scenes.

Plus, the explanation that the final scene was shot before the death scene (which Deb's actress improved) is an acceptable explanation to me. Then again, I would have never noticed if it weren't for Internet know-it-alls.
