Clutch performance by Porcello, very very impressed.
Joe Nathan giving up 4 in the ninth was a pleasant surprise to get the baseball day going

Yeah, I couldn't believe that. Joe Nathan is practically lights out.
Hold on to this game and we're back to 4.5 up.

I wonder if the Twins blogs are going nuts that he blew the save and how its unacceptable that he's their closer.
Considering he has 300% more blown saves than Rodney...

I am not an idividual award follower, is Porcello in the running for ROY?

Andrew Bailey the Oakland closer has been lights out all year. Porcello would need all his starts to be like this the rest of the year.
He will finish 2nd or 3rd.

I would say he is "in the running" for ROY (as in, in the top 3).
I was about to make a comment about the gem he was spinning and he promptly gave up a homer to Hafner. Oops.
5 hits and 2 runs over 7 IP is still a very impressive start.

Along with bailey, andrus of the rangers, and niemann of the rays. At least I think neimann is a rookie.

porcello is definitely a long shot for roy. outside of the relief pitcher mentioned, that matt neimman guy (the rays pitcher verlander beat last week and faces again this weekend) is a pretty good rookie, and white sox 3rd baseman beckham is a nice all around player. one of those 3 will get it, i'd think.
but thats no slight on porcello.
bailey is 25.
bekham is 23 in 2 weeks.
neiman was in verlander's draft class.
fact is, porcello has had one great month (may), one good month (aug) and has been a mixed bag otherwise. however, he is justifiably getting a ton of attention, and i wouldnt look at missing the roy as any indication of what kind of potential he has vs the other guys.

Porcello has my ROY vote and Rodney has my Cy Young vote

I think I'm finally getting used to Rodney putting runners on base and getting into a 9th inning jam. No matter how bleak it looks, he always gets out of it. He must lead the league in entertaining saves.

What else would you expect?
September 3rd, 2009 at 3:09 AM ^
that people realize that all closer put, on average, 1 base runner on per inning no matter what.

Another marathon 9th inning from Rodney.
