OT: Dantonio says MSU got top player in MI

Submitted by JNQ_GOBLUE_79 on

Today at his press conference, Dantonio apparently made the statement that, "For the third straight year, Michigan State gets the preceived top player by the media in the state of Michigan."

He was referring to Burbridge:

Apparently #5 is the new #1 !!!

the person probably means unanimous, but the two words don't mean the same thing.

I only point this out because it is a fairly widespread misconception. As a Dr. I sit on many committee's and all operate on a concensus basis which means you come to your conclusions collectively as a group. If we had to achieve unanimous votes to get anything done, nothing would ever progress.

Unanimous means everyone agrees. Concensus means it is collectively what the group could agree on, not necessarily what each indidvidual in the group wanted.

A for instance would be: I have quadrulet 3 and a half year olds who all like different tv shows. If I wanted them to unanimously agree what show to watch they could never do it. Now if I told each of them to list their top five choices of tv shows and pass them to me, we could compare the lists and pick one that appears on all four. It wasn't any of their first choices, but they all agree to watch it.

Can a strong argument be made for him, yes.

Even if it is 100% true I'll take 7 out of top 10 and lose the top guy.

Insert joke about Dantonio only wanting one of the top ten from michigan because he is a national recruiter.

You have to something to cover up the fact your class is #40 on Rivals and #36 on Scout, while Michigan is Top 10 for sure and possibly Top 5.

This is the first year in his career Dantonio has been going up against a strong Michigan and Ohio State at the same time.  The man should have used his success this year to jump, but he didn't and how he pays the price.  Ohio State and Michigan get their pick of the litter.  Notre Dame and Wisconsin get a bunch of high star guys but take smaller classes.  MSU gets a pair of 4*s and then 3*s and 2*s.  MSU is fifth for overall Midwestern recruiting at best.

He's been saying for awhile now that since OSU and M are back on top of the conference, it will impact MSU and PSU the hardest.

But I'm glad Mork Donatos got his moment.

It's a typically cocky statement but not all that farfetched.  Trieu agrees:

And so does Sam Webb:

For Dantonio, it's all about spin right now.  He was annhiliated by Michigan's overall recruiting efforts so he can do nothing but hang his hat on getting (possibly) the best single player in state.

Such bitterness.  I dont blame him.  Seriously how crappy would you feel if you had back to back 11 win seasons and got absolutely obliterated on the recruiting trail?

Who the fuck cares about in-state recruiting. I though they were focusing on the inter-galactic student athletes.

Actually  Dantonio shouldve said "msu got the top player in the state that couldnt get into UM and wanted to play with his teammates and buddies but could not do to bad grades so we will take him". Nice spin md.

This does work both ways however, as Northfleet would likely have committed to MSU had his grades been order during the beginning of his recruitment.

Furthermore, just to play devil's advocate, Burbridge's quote to the Detroit News doesn't really scream "I wanted to go to UM!" When asked why he didn't choose UM he said, "I'm not a real fan of Michigan..."

Just saying that I found it interesting.

Dantonio needs to just shut up and coach. He has lucked out and ran into a Michigan squad these past few years in a transition of coaches and players. Even this last year IMO Michigan beat themselves and MSU escaped AA with a win. I think MSU's run is over starting this year.
