football players were forced to play football or else find themselves beaten like an african drum. To compare this to situation to slavery really does show that many of these football players didn't learn a god damn thing in school.

... the list of individuals using metaphors poorly, and other people getting offended by it.  Kinda like Jalen's "Uncle Tom" comment.

Should be a nonstory, you know, with the real issues the world is facing right now.

This absolutely makes me think Adrian Peterson is an idiot. He has some good points buried in the article, but I have no idea why he thought that line would endear him to anyone. This is going to be a media headline that people are not about to sympathize with.

Mike Martin on Twitter?  During the Fab 5 doc, he tweeted something to the effect of "college athletes, modern day slaves.  we are all out here strugglin.. #playerunion"

I think many football players have this mentality.

I don't want to condone what AP or MM said, but have any of you played college or professional athletics? MILLIONS are made off of these guys. I played college ball and the work you put in doesn't seem nearly worth a scholarship at times.

Again, I'm not agreeing with these comments, I'm just asking for you guys to use a little perspective before judging what they are saying.

Have you ever looked at it from the prospective of having to paying for school? How about from the prospective of working over 50 hours a week and having to take out loans to pay for school, graduating with honors and having no better job prospects than you had before and then explaining to you wife and kids sorry christmas is going to be nonexistent this year because daddy has to repay student loans. I would have given my left eye to have enough athletic ability to be able to play college ball and get paid with a free education.

Third times a charm. I actually agree with some of what your saying but again, he chose his path in life as a NFL football player. He gets paid millions of dollars to do what he does, i'm pretty positive slaves did not get compensated or had the right to choose if they wanted to work in the field all day. But the college part of your comment I agree with, it's tough when there are only so many hours in a day to get everything done.

its truly a fallacy that universities are making money off of their atheltic programs. Michigan is one of maybe 7 schools that brings in profit. if we start allowing benefits for players collegiate athletics will be destroyed.
