OT: Colin Cowherd on ESPN today.

Submitted by Sione's Flow on
Did anyone else see Colin on ESPN today? His vitriol towards the UM fan base was almost on the level of RCMB. My question to those who've been on the board, longer than me, is this: what did we do warrant this level of disdain from this guy?

Maybe he read some of the shit we say about him here.  It's not like we have been very nice to him.  If he did read and obviously doesn't have an account, he would never see the "negs" that people who call him "Cowturd," etc get.  So, if I was Colin Cowherd and my attention was called to a thread about me, I would probably not have a very good opinion of the Michigan fanbase.  If I happened to be petty and vindictive, I would have a perfect target.

Another factor: running Rich Rod out of town.  Since Rich Rod got Arizona into a NYD bowl this year, the national narrative is starting to shift from the old, tired, "Rich Rod wasn't a good fit in Ann Arbor" to "Rich Rod is a good coach, but Michigan didn't give him a chance to prove it."

Sadly, we are paying for David Brandon's sins.  Hopefully, Jim Harbaugh comes in and repairs the damage Brandon did to the program.

If the guy doesn't want people all over (not just within this fanbse, or even board for that matter), then maybe he should stop being that which epitomizes the absolute worst of ESPN. His whole purpose is to be so annoying as to get people to tune in to bitch about him. If more people would straight up ignore that piece of shit, he'd eventually go away.

He is pretty widely hated and the largest section of his Wikipedia page is devoted to "Criticism."  That includes such gems as:

"Using un-attributed material: In March 2006, Cowherd was criticized for using a joke on his show that was posted on the "M Zone", a University of Michigan fan blog without crediting it."

"Cowherd was criticized for comments made regarding the circumstances surrounding Sean Taylor's death. On November 28, 2007, one day after Taylor's home invasion murder, Cowherd claimed that Taylor's past had brought this upon himself, and that Redskins fans who mourned him were not "grown ups"'.

Please troll the hell out of this chickenshit hack's Twitter.

Didn't see him, but heard Cowherd today - he has had an issue with the B1G for a long time, other than OSU. Thinks since the population base has migrated south to warmer climates and out of the Rust Belt, that UM has no talent and can never compete with the SEC and Pac-12.

He was acting like a teenage girl. I couldn't believe how he was conducting himself. I think if JH does come he will just say "I was kidding" or "I knew the whole time I did it for ratings"

Don't take it personally. It's just his style as an entertainer to be inflammatory. It can be enjoyable to watch and listen to it, but he rarely provides any quality or novel insight.

He slobbers over himself for Urban Meyer, so he could see this as a threat to him. He could be trying to rile up UM fans for attention and ratings. He could just be a jackass. All of these could be reasons.

For the longest time, he told Michigan to get with the times and get serious about the football program. Now we throw buku bucks at Harbaugh and we're desperate. He's a fucking idiot who thinks he's never wrong. In other words, your stereotypical ESPN employee.

absolutely no comparison - DP is the gold standard of sports radio. Great guests, great supporting cast.

Cowherd's a miserable little shithead who, if sports radio never existed, would be one of those back-stabbing, self-congratulatory lower-tier managers that everyone hates, and cheers when he's walked out of the building by HR 5 days before Christmas.

Most of his disdain goes back to a bit he stole from the original Mzone about the wunderlic test. It is my understanding that he took a bit, used it on air without credit or citation to Mzone. The guys over there tried to get him to at least give them credit. He would not and in fact acted like the total douche that he is. Things ran up the chain to the ESPN ombudsman. Colin eventually gave credit. I'm guessing he was reprimanded by ESPN brass behind the scenes and has harbored resentment toward the M fanbase ever since.

Michigan alumni. He went to a shit directional school (Eastern Washington) and worked his way up from small local markets in the West and finally made it to ESPN. With the exception of CA, most people in the West do not recognize Michigan as the academic powerhouse that it is. Most people in the West (again making the exception for CA) don't even realize how expansive and powerful the overall M alumni base is. Probably, living in the NE, he's now exposed to M blue bloods and for some reason finds himself annoyed with them. M alumni are in large numbers in the NE and he probably deals with them routinely and this is his way of trolling the entire M alumni base. That is my thought anyhow.

The credibility of thosewhostay7 is uncertain but he has not been outed as a hack yet. Brian believes the guy may be legit and it was likely our Dear Leader himself who deleted your thread.

Also Ace Williams was known for being a raving lunatic and thosewhostay7's twitter timeline suggests he's pretty temperate

Even the guys at ESPN hate him...Russillo routinely calls him out and Bomani Jones BLASTED him on Highly Questionable two weeks ago for his continuous hatred on John Wall.

He, Skip Bayless and Stephen A. are just there for the show...they're the E! or TMZ of ESPN and that's what they get paid to do.

Moving along...

I was listening to Bill Simmons' inteview with Larry David this morning and found this exchange "interesting":

During a recent B.S. ReportBill Simmons didn’t just curb his enthusiasm for a fellow ESPN-er. He brought that sentiment to a screeching halt.

Or so thinks Colin Cowherd, hilariously, commenting this morning to his viewers and listeners “how jealous” Simmons sounded when guest Larry David revealed that he likes to watch ESPN “studio shows” while working out. When Simmons asked which ones, the funnyman replied: “I love Colin…”

Once David confirmed he was talking about Cowherd, there were two full seconds of stunned silence at the Simmons end. Followed by a puzzled, “Interesting?!”

He works for ESPN. So, there you go.  There are some people out there that believe that ESPN stands for Extremely Stupid People Network.  And then there are others that believe it stands for Narcissistic Bastard Children.  Oh wait, that's NBC.  I'm lost.  What were we talking about?

Anything he says has absolutely nothing to do with news, should forever be OT, and should only be posted for its potential comedic value. Hes a sports themed shock jock. He should do all of his tv reporting Jim Carrey style, where he bends over and imitates talking out of his ass, because then at least he couldn't pretend he wasn't anymore.
