OT: CMU's Marcus Keene Leads Nation in Scoring

Submitted by uncle leo on

Just thought this would be a fun little topic to throw in with the Michigan win last night.

Not sure if anyone is paying attention or noticed, but the nation's leading scorer resides in Mt. Pleasant. Dude is averaging 30.7 (!!!!!!!!!!) PPG which is almost a full 7.0 points more than the player sitting in the second position. And he's a pretty short guy, only sits at 5'9.

CMU hoops have been relatively dormant lately so it's finally nice to be able to point something positive with the program.

WMU last Friday night when they were on CBSSN.  He's an electric player.  Gets a bit out of control sometimes, but he doesn't shy away from the moment.  The other thing that most people miss is, his backcourt mate (Braylon Rayson) is also a dynamic scorer.  Averaging 20 PPG.  Highest scoring backcourt tandem in the country.

Hoping Matt D can weigh in on this...I have only seen highlights of both players, but Keene amd DeJulius seem to have similar games. I would love to hear a comparison from those who have seen both play.

He's operating in a permanent heat check.  A shot chucker in every sense of the word.  He was taking and hitting shots from the mid-court logo last night (admittedly a big logo that stretches into the frontcourt).  Hard to complain since his shooting percentage was excellent.  Just agreeing that you can't really stop a guy from jacking up a shot if he doesn't care where he's shooting from or how "guarded" he actually is.

I've heard from my CMU buddy about this guy, and he looks like he has a great shot. But damn, he launched 18 3's last night! He sure gets his opportunity to stuff the stat sheet with points.
