OT: "Childress won't impose deadline on Favre"
Per ESPN.com:
"Even if the Minnesota Vikings must switch quarterbacks again, though, they're willing to wait for Favre's word.
Coach Brad Childress said Tuesday he doesn't have a deadline for Favre's decision, insisting the team can plan for both possibilities despite an obvious preference for early resolution."
And, in other news, Fredo Corelone won't demand answers about his role in the family business from brother Michael. Fredo just plans to go fishing until he hears something.

Oh shit. That means he's coming back isn't he?

then a decision. Just put me in coach, but don't make me practice.

I imagine the longer he waits, the chances of him returning increase. Brett just knows he has one more year in him.
To be honest, the Vikings need him back also. I'm sure fans cringe at the thought of Tavaris Jackson taking snaps next year.

Please, they'll probably try to talk Kurt Warner into a one year deal.

The Vikings made it to the final four, now they pick low. That doesn't mean they can't draft a very good quarterback, they just have to be very smart about it. Obviously the future is not with Favre. They tried it, had a great run, but should stop it here.

If Favre wants to continue playing with the same team he was with the previous season, he should have to attend camp. He doesn't want to do so, and while I think Childress is inclined to let him do what he wants, a second straight year of missing camp might undermine an effort at forming a team.

What an odd situation. Favre is still performing at an incredible level, and is thus much better than the alternative. On the flip side, Favre pretty much does whatever he wants to (including the play calling, apparently).
Ultimately though, he seems to be a great tutor to their younger players, and is their only shot at winning in the near future.
He reminds me a lot of Roger Clemens - old, very high maintenance, but still a great contributor to the team.

I think Childress is an idiot who allows his ego to get in the way of his performance. When Favre audibles even a few plays, Childress goes into a snit. When Manning threw eight straight passes on the first drive of the second half, most of which were audibles from run calls, he was a hero and he was congratulated by his coach.
That is why Manning is in the Super Bowl and Favre is at home: coaching.

I know that Favre hates training camp, but I hadn't thought about mini-camps. He probably hates those too.
I'm predicting that Favre comes back, but he/they orchestrate a way for him to miss the camps. He might just retire again, then unretire after training camp is over in August. We'll see.

The Sportscenter guy was laughing while he was reporting the story, and at one point goes "are we really talking about this..."
Yup, it's going to be a loooooong off-season.

SC ANCHOR: "Sal Paolantonio, what do you have for us today?"
SALPAL: "Well, I just talked to Brett Favre's poolboy and he says that while Favre did cut the legs off his Wranglers to use as swimming trunks, Favre is already catching grief from the Wrangler reps at the house. A source off the record told me that Favre had a grilled cheese for lunch, which if you extrapolate to last year's offseason, means he's probably coming back to the Vikings. Back to you in studio"
SC ANCHOR: "Thanks Sal. And now down to Ed Werner in Dallas where Tony Romo is deciding whether to send a birthday gift to Jerry Jones's new chin. Ed, what's the story?"
January 27th, 2010 at 6:26 AM ^
It's obvious Favre wears the wranglers in this relationship and will continue to do whatever he wants this offseason.

He once suggested to Brett that he might consider running the play that was called instead of audibling for the 1,836th time in a row. Pieces of mustache were later found near Favre's locker, it wasn't pretty.

At least the Favre discussion is more interesting than baseball (Michigan baseball excepted, of course).

"Childress won't impose deadline on Favre" ..... but will walk on his knees from St Paul to Mississippi as part of the new Favrewatch pilgrimage"

can seriously not happen again. If he does the retire-not retire thing again and it receives the same attention, I will now begin to take it out on the NFL as a whole. There is not a bigger waste of time than the Farve-retire-saga. How many other teams Superbowl chances does he have to destroy with an ill-timed interception before people stop caring about this phony clown. F#%k Brett Farve and his "decision."

I'm serenely OK with him destroying the Vikings Super Bowl chances.
