OT: Charlie Weis piece from ESPN

Submitted by crg on

Moderately interesting piece on Charie Weis.  I'm not sure he'll get much sympathy from this board, but there's discussion about ND trying to coax a "seven-figure" donation from Weiss for his son to enroll.  I do not find this surprising in the least.

Regardless of how people feel about RR and Hoke during their time at UM, I hope the school treated (and will treat) them with more respect that ND did to Weis.

How bored is Charlie Weis? Not only did he join the board of his homeowners association but he serves on a committee of the board of his homeowners association.

The homeowners association is certainly doomed.

I would agree, but really only because what will happen is that the HOA will sign him to a contract extension, and that fall, he'll go 3-9 and then maybye 5-7 the next year before they decide to let him go. Then it will be too late, of course, for he will be entitled - per his contract - to all the money from dues that would have gone to lawn and sidewalk maintenance. The subdivision will look like a shithole inside a few years. Weis still wins.

No mentally sane person would offer this scam artist a job.  He is something you wipe off your shoe then throw your shoe away for touching something so disgusting.

I liked this story, but Weis seems to have selective memory. There was a lot of talk at the time that his agent was threatening to go back to the NFL when ND gave him that stupid in-season extension.

If Weis really did leverage a 5-2 start at mid-season, that's a pretty rotten move. But ND should have said, "See ya." So it's on them, too. Pretty sure Perles and MSU had a similar transaction.

Notre Dame has made questionable choices before. Like being arrogant and deluded enough to hire Gerry Faust in 1981 because he was a dominant high school coach.

Giving Weis that 10 year contract extension just several games into his first season was another Gerry Faust like move. I laughed my ass off when it was first announced because it sounded like the perfect thing that was going to come back and blow up in their face. It did but I didn't think it would happen as quickly as it did.

Notre Dame nation needs to take responsibility for themselves and save some of that anger and resentment for the higher ups who would give such a contract extension to Hugh Jass before he's had a chance to blink twice.

Aww man. I love making Charlie Weis the (front)butt of a lot of jokes, but I never knew he had a special needs daughter. Glad he's able to find some peace helping her out.

Also, I'm shocked at how suprisingly well written this was for an ESPN article.
