OT: Calling all BCS articles

Submitted by kirtip on

Hey friends. My apologies that I am not providing any good content with this post, but I am working on a school paper that is against the BCS and how it is unfair, unintelligent, and in some cases dirty. I know I have seen many articles against the BCS on here in the past, but after an extensive search I was unable to find the one I was looking for. So, if you could provide any articles you have against the BCS that would be awesome.

And in the mean time, hate on the BCS! Go blue!

I remember I had to write a persuasive essay once on a topic of choice and I chose why there should be a playoff in college football. Slam dunk choice on my part because I wrote about 9 pages of what's wrong with the BCS, why the BCS needs to go and a solution to this shit.

Good luck.

I hate being rude, but this is pretty lazy on your part if it's for a school paper.

Just google "BCS bad" and go weeding through the garbage like the rest of us would.  I might suggest even googling "BCS good" to provide a counter-point.  If you want past articles, then add a year to your search (e.g. "BCS Bad 2006").  I have a feeling one or two people might have some thoughts on the subject.

https://www.google.com/search?q=bcs+bad&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&rlz=1I7ADFA_enUS453#q=bcs+bad&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&rlz=1I7ADFA_enUS453&prmd=imvnsu&ei=nRLYTtq1N-Lb0QHPscSIDg&start=10&sa=N&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=4cead518e0e002f9&biw=1226&bih=663

All chiding aside, best of luck on your paper.  It's a pretty crazy subject.

To everyone who is calling me out on being lazy: First of all, by saying paper I was exaggerating a bit. It is more like a 1 page blog post for my political science class where we apply principles such as Dirty Hands, Equality, etc to social and real life events, such as sports. So, while I have done a decent amount of outside research and could write it without help from here, I figure some of you guys have more knowledge in the subject than me. I remember seeing a good article posted on here a while back that I thought might be useful. And hey, people are other sources of knowledge too right?

So, sorry to waste your time by asking a simple question. I am not trying to cheat, get you to do the work for me, or anything like that. Just looking for a helpful hand that might be able to make my point better, because Im sure some of you know more than me.

You probably should have said all this in the first place.  We are not mind readers, and only responded to what you wrote, which came off as a lazy high schooler trying to get away with not doing some digging (If I were alone in this, then those of us calling you out wouldn't have been upvoted like we were).  This message board is going to respond to queries about as literally as it can, given the above average density of engineers and lawyers.

You might have phrased it better by asking if we know any particular authors or arguments that have been particularly compelling over the years, instead of using the "gimme what you got" structure.

I wish I had people give me all the sources I needed in High school and college for writing research paper.

That being said

Death to the BCS by Dan Wetzel

It's all there, its a book: one of those things with the pages, or that thing you read on you Ipad or Kindle.

The OP is just asking for some ideas.  It's not like he is asking anyone to write his paper for him.  And how do you know this is the only research he is doing?

For those who are older, sure, it would have been nice to have the internet when we were kids, but we didn't.  Today, every paper written has the advantage of using the internet for research.  Consequently, it takes a lot more game to get an A than it used to.

Congrats to the OP for creative problem solving.

Yeah, you can use the Internet for research. I did, in high school. You are not, however, supposed to rely upon opinion pieces without a shred of evidentiary support (basically everything ESPN puts out). A research paper on the BCS would have to argue from a legal antitrust standpoint, refer to the press release announcing its formation, etc. Citing what's-his-name, the senator from Utah who is always bitching about the BCS doesn't count as a credible source. It's opinion.

But do your own damn research.  Do you want some help writing it too?  Maybe you can email it to someone and they can print it for you.  And I can't believe this is the second post (I've seen) today with people asking for shit a simple Google search would turn up.  Quit being so goddamn lazy and use that lump of mush on top of your shoulders.

This is some serious laziness.  And what kind of paper are you writing where you can use opinion pieces as sources?  What happened to the days of only using peer-reviewed journals for research papers?  I love wikipedia, but damn if it hasn't totally changed academia for the worse.

Craig James would debate you on how accurate the information CAN BE on wikipedia.  Does it link to trusty journal articles?  Yeah, sometimes - but there is a crap load of information that isn't cited or cited incorrectly.

I'm not bitter, in fact I'm pretty happy that the next generation doesn't know how to do actual research - it will certainly be beneficial to my career having a skill nobody has anymore.

I found saw this when I was screwing around during my History class today...and I dont think that CQ Researcher appears on google anyway

http://library.cqpress.com/cqresearcher/document.php?id=cqresrre2011111800&abstract=false

I think it is paywalled, but you should be able to login at your school library or they'll have a link on their website. (if its not due tomorrow)

If all else fails I can track down the login info from my school and send it to you
