OT - BYU takes a page from Mike Hart's book

Submitted by Frank Drebin on

This picture is from the BYU - Utah St. basketball game last night. It looks like the Cougars have been taking a page from the Mike Hart book of brotherhood.

I think it's one thing if a player says something like this, but quite another if the University is spreading these types of messages.  Sure, maybe it was just a rogue arena worker, but I'd have to imagine this isn't the type of image that the higher-ups at BYU would like to be projecting.  Or maybe it is, who knows with those crazy Mormons.

It seems hard for me to imagine that political jokes would somehow be deemed more offensive than religious jokes.  If the "rule" only applied to the former, it's probably because it should be patently obvious that insulting people's religious faith is out of bounds.

That is two that say only politics so I must have been mistaken.

Also, as to the edit.....I know lots of jokes about various religions, all of which people who actually practice those religions find very offensive.

MH20;

Did you catch the Wizard of Oz 1/2 time show a few weeks back against Illinois?  I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure MSC or DB made reference to the little brother theme across the Big Screen.  Granted the 1/2 time show was very entertaining for once and the references were out of fun, but if UM would have been the butt of some of the jokes @ another stadium we'd be up in arms. All in all we're no different in our actions than BYU even though we like to hold ourselves to higher standards.

Yes, I was at the Illinois game and watched the halftime show.  That is a good point.  I guess my comment was more directed at the actual message itself, and not the "Big Brother" part.

"Dear Utah St. fans, enjoy the loss" just comes off as really dickish and bush league.  To me, the halftime show was more "in good fun" rather than this, which just seems plain mean-spirited.  But, I do see your point, and I'd certainly be embarrassed if Michigan did something similar.

That game was awesome. Utah State is our biggest rival in basketball so beating them is always good. The administration is definitely not happy about that though. They make a big deal about having good sportsmanship here.

ding ding. Its not like we've been some dominant team that is "only" losing a cursed game to state. We have a bad team the past few years, so of course we're going to probably lose to better teams. Hopefully that all changes this next year and beyond!
