wouldnt be wild about it as a lion fan but would love to see this as a michigan fan. having nd's coach poached by the lions - THE LIONS! - would be priceless. not to mention the saban to nd false hopes.

Not sure if Kelly would take this job or not. I think he wants to go to the pros, but I, and many others, believe he wants to go to New England when Belicik retires. He's gone out of his way to develop a relationship with Belicik these past couple years. He may be better off staying in college, winning for now, and pushing for the NE job if it opens. That way, if he loses once there, he can still come back to a top college job.

Chip Kelly in one year has caused this massive purge of college coaches.  Incredible.

Anybody wealthy enough on these boards to brush shoulders with an NFL owner and suggest one Brady Hoke as the next hot NFL guy?

My deepdown hope is that Kelly does make a move to the NFL, but in another two years or so, then ND hires Urban Meyer.  Oh, the buckeye misery ....

What are you talking about? He benched Rees for Golson and went to a national championship game. I'd say no one involved has any regrets. Should he coddle everyone and constantly tell them how great they are because that's what Schwartz did? They are pros. They can take a bolloxing.

If he goes purple-face on Suh after a 15 yard penalty, Suh might very well punt him through the roof of Ford Field right there on Sunday Night Football.

I've been seriously considering going Lions-free and this would just about clinch it. Maybe he can coach, but I so despise the guy I'm not sure I can root for him.

I like the Lions and hope they can get to a superbowl someday- the paper bag head fans were the funniest characters in the NFL.  I don't know about Kelly though, he hasn't proven himself in major college ball yet IMHO.   He definitely is a career climber.

While ND isn't the power it was in days of yore, it's still a far more prestigious job at the collegiate level than Detroit is at the professional level.

Detroit is equivalent to a program like SMU; once upon a time it was a powerhouse, but those days are several decades in the rear view mirror.

I'm not talking about money; I'd have to assume that he'd make far more $$ with any pro team than ND. However, if Kelly was solely concerned about money, he could probably make more with several other franchises.

I think he's far better suited to college anyhow.

I don't care for the guy, but those of you who are saying Kelly hasn't proven anything are talking out your asses. He's won everywhere he's been, climbed the ladder to one of the most prestigious jobs in college football, and in just three years took them to a national championship game. I know that's not the 6- title run you went on with Michigan on play station, but that qualifies as proving yourself in my book. If you're not willing to see the big picture, because that one time he got mad, or because he finally led ND to do something that caused you to feel envy, then, well, I don't know, you're just tasting the bitter grapes of the sacred wine of suck.
