OT? Brian @ Bucknuts

Submitted by lbpeley on
I'm wondering how many of us MGoBloggers get over there to read Brian's musings. The reason I ask is that (against my better judgement) I've taken to reading the Bucknutty's replies. I've gone back to earlier posts and read those, too. As a veteran of Hailvictors.com I'm very much accustomed to the back and forth between OSU and UM fans and I'm also quite versed in some of their fans' lunacy and childish retorts. Is the MGoBlogosphere above that kind of blog fighting? I see a few of our regulars over there owning a particularly stupid post or poster but it's not nearly as frequent as I would have expected. I'm not calling anyone to arms to go over there and start a pissing match, mind you. I guess I've never posted there because I believe the effort is a bit futile given the recent way of the rivalry. Also, I recall a pretty civil retort by Chrisgocomment met with "missagain", "meatchicken", "42-7", "horse and buggy days", etc. It just really grinds me that only 1 out of every 10* poster over there has anything even remotely witty or original to say. It just seems like a waste of Brian's talent to get the infantile replies to his posts that he gets over there. Do the people over here kind of look at it that way or do they just not read Brian's work over there? *I did no research I just love sweeping generalizations and making up random "stats".

"It just really grinds me that only 1 out of every 10* poster over there has anything even remotely witty or original to say." Well, if that's true, that's better than here...

Idc what they do on their website what so ever. I think I have gone to that site a whopping one time and their responses to things just seem kind of weak and dumb. After reading some responses to articles and whatnot there I decided nothing good would come of me going over to that site and posting. Nothing good would come from one of the OSU fans coming to this site either.

I read Brian's stuff there, yeah, and then for whatever reason I also sometimes do read the comments. I don't know why. If I wanted to hear "hurrrr dickrod hurrr" over and over again I could just go down to the monkey cage.

yeah commenting over there is futile. all they see is the present, and the present is 3-9, so therefore that's the way it will be forever. most of them can't see beyond what a train wreak 2008 was. I mostly got annoyed with someone who claimed "no one on the West Coast wanted Forcier" which was beyond stupid, especially given that all of Forcier's offer letters are easily accessible online. I posted a couple responses, the person replied with more stupid, and I gave up. read Brian's stuff (because he makes fun of them quite a bit), read the comments for the humor, and then move on.

I like reading the articles Brian writes up over there. I can understand why some of their readers might be offended or confused about his writing style in the beginning having not been used to it. Well, that was what I told myself the first few weeks of him posting there at least. After seeing some of the same posters saying essentially the same things with little or no value, I now just think of their comment section as about equivalent to the freep or mlive comments.

As an aside, I would be very interested in reading an intelligent OSU blogger on mgoblog. I'd like to think the reaction of readers here might stimulate some quality debate/discussion.

Comments like that are why we blog, especially when they come from rival fans. As to the reactions to Brian over on Bucknuts; that's the internet, and the rivalry for you. I can guarantee you I'd get a similar reaction guest-writing over at Michigan's Scout site or something.

I read Brian's posts over at Bucknuts, but it is definetly not worth your time to read the comments. I think they are equal to the typical Michigan posters on Freep, Mlive, and Scout, but, lucky for us, we have a much more intelligent community over here. As to why Brian posts over there, it's probably to have fun with some of the OSU fans and possibly gain readers from the smarter posters over there.

That was a thought I forgot to include in the OP. I highly doubt we would treat a guest poster from there that way if he was posting in the same vein as Brian does. It just bottles the mind.

See Chazz Michael Michaels. "You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle"? A -1 back at you, sir, for missing the reference.

I think the responses should be required reading, particularly for anyone who has ever used - or been tempted to use - the term $uckeyes, O$U, or U$C in a Mgoblog post. The responses really illustrate how inane the name calling comes off. I have also noticed that there are a very few members on the site that have tried in vain to explain the concept of sarcasm to the bucknuts masses. -- Seriously who doesn't see the humor in "Michigan is gonna kick your butt in 2011!" when posted in June 2009?

You can almost hear the poor bastards trying their best to comprehend the nuances of Brian's post, then hear them grunting angrily as they give up, and then hear them puncturing a can of Natural Light for them to shotgun. I love those posts, though; I nearly died laughing the first time I saw "something shiny."

I don't think most of us behave too badly towards other fans, but of course, there are a few that act, in my opinion, regrettably. This gives us all an opportunity: 1) Look at MSU/ND/OSU boards. 2) See how our (non-troll, hopefully) fans are received. 3) Try not to give opposing fans too hard of a time when they venture to a Michigan board and attempt to be reasonable.

Seems like most people are fine with Irish (ND fan, obviously) around here or at least I haven't seen any irrational ripping of him, and poguemahone (on the rare when he posts these days) usually might catch a little razzing on occasion but since he posts reasonable things or adds to the discussion he usually seems to be treated ok. Clowns like FEARtheVEST from the old haloscan boards though will be unmercifully ripped.

I read Brian's work at Bucknuts, but cringe when I read the comments. Let's sum them up in a nutshell... "LOLZ BUCKZ 42-7!!!!!!!!" "HAHA TRESSEL 7-1!!!!!!!" "FIRE BAD BUCKEYEZ GOOD!" "scUM suckz lolz 3-9!!!!!!!" Did I miss any?

I am a bit surprised that Brian's posts over there haven't attracted a few of the more intelligent buckeye posters (and some of the trolls) from over there to come and read and post here. I mean, we have a few ND and MSU guys, where is our token OSU perspective? Edit: Oh, apparently we have one that comments occasionally here. I thought it was just a link to his site, not that he posts here.

i never understood the point of reading the blogs of other teams, particularly tOSU or State. Every fellow Michigan fan that I know who does that just gets pissed off at whatever they read.

Spent most of the morning at work reading each of Brian's pieces over there. Interesting to see the material crafted for, well, his anti-audience. Anyway, yeah. Some of the comments were downright remedial.

It's funny. We were so bad last year - and started Nick Sheridan in that game, no less - that hearing the score of the OSU game really doesn't bother me. Taunting us about it is like bringing up a basketball game from the Ellerbe days. Knowing in advance that you're going to suck takes a lot of the sting away.

It's a sad commentary on last season that I have trouble disagreeing with that statement. I'm not one to assess blame on any one factor in particular, because one thing always tended to compound another. It's just a shame that our guys were reduced to such an unfortunate circumstance. Generally speaking, though, I believe that you create your own luck, and that the environment of the program will be much more conducive to that process this season. Keep drinkin' that chocolate milk, gentlemen. Off topic, though.

I'm digging this slightly old thread up because it needs saying, but I don't want to register at that shithole Bucknuts in order to say it. Brian's latest article there, the one about Wermers, with the picture of the O-line disaster against OSU, yeah? It cracks me up how Bucknuttys love to talk about how totally rock-out awesome Boren is (best lineman they have if you believe the comments) and at the same time slobber over that picture.....the one where Boren is whiffing so badly on a block he looks like he's about ready to fall over. Wonderful.

I gave up on reading them since any article i read i read the comments. Anyways growing up near columbus and going to Ohio State I know how retarded OSU fans are, so I was really hoping to hear intellectual comments. I felt like I was reading comments oh a mac/pc forum. I guess I'm lucky since my close friends either didnt grow up around sipping too much kool-aid, or they are the 1 in 100 OSU fans that you actually take football with, without them spouting nonsense. Of Terelle Pryor winning to heisman 3 straight years with 3 straight national titles.
