OT: Blake Griffin is a Piston

Submitted by The Maize Halo on

Per Woj:

Clippers trying to free-up for Lebron?

Who (and what) would we be letting go?

Either way -- big (potential) news!

EDIT

From the comments, it's possibly quite the steep asking price: Bradley, Tobias, Boban, and our first-round pick.

EDIT #2

Per Woj, done deal:

Man we gave up a lot of a possibly decline phase injury prone big man.  Not a huge fan of this move, especially in the modern spacing focused NBA.

Heres why I know this was a great trade for the pistons:

A Republican is in office. Look at how the Pistons did under Obama (zilch), under Bush (going to work pistons) under clinton (grant hill I guess) under bush/reagan (bad boys). Thats as far back as I go, but its uncanny how their fortunes changed with the Whitehouse's.

Not a bad trade.  Avery and Harris felt like they maxed out their value, and for all of Griffin's injury issues he is an elite player when healthy and is having a pretty good year.  This won't fundamentally change the NBA landscape, but Griffin has already shown he can work with a defense-first big man, and in the East he should have easier nights than he did out West.

Shoot; unless Chris Paul has something against Avery Bradley or Tobias Harris, the Clippers-Rockets game on 2/28 just got a lot less interesting

We give the game away to a skipping Cavs team and they're like... I know what will fix this: Blake friggin Griffin! I'm just assuming SVG is just selling the farm in a horrible reaction.

We got the best player out of the deal, I know the injuries are a concern, but it wasn’t like Avery has been completely healthy this year. And it’s not like we are giving up the first pick in the draft. If things go according the plan we will probably be drafting 17-21. That’s great for a guy averaging 23-8-5, only a few guys like Russ, Lebron & Giannis are doing that!

Well I'll at least watch the Pistons again to see what they look like instead of just looking at the box scores.

The issue remains that even if it does work having 2 big men they're still surrounded by shit and don't have any money to spend. If it doesn't work that contract is terrible.

Pistons are such a bad organization. Building around 2 Big men who don’t play great defense and an inneficient ball stopping point guard. To be fair, they weren’t going anywhere with what they had but Stan just made the rebuilding job harder for his successor.
