Can't believe that the Backstreet Boys have outsold Tom Petty - especially if you count Travelling Wilbury's, Mudcrutch and his solo stuff on top of the Heartbreakers.  Dude put out like 20 albums in total, most of them gold records.

I wouldn't really equate Eagles w/ California with Henley being from Texas and Frey from MI.

Not sure about NH either w/ Joe Perry from MA and Steven Tyler from NY.

John Denver isn't from Colorado? /s

Who the f*ck are Spencer Bohren and Billy Gilman?

This sent me on a bit of a wiki voyage: The best-selling artists entry indicates Tom Petty and Flo Rida lay claim to the same amount of sales (80 million dollars)... but Mr. Rida has 70 M certified units to Mr. Petty’s 35 M. That seems like maybe an artifact from different reporting schemes over time but...wow.

This is dumb. Best-selling doesn't equal great. Or even good. There are a ton of great artists unlisted because they're not as popular as...oh, say, Mariah Carey. So the Ramones, the Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, Public Enemy, et al. get ignored by it. Ohio has produced two of my favorite great and influential bands of the 70s: The Ohio Players and Pere Ubu. Both are legandary. Let's not misinterpret a bullshit list to assert that the music in a given place is bad because some best-selling artist who happened to be born there sucks.

Pretty surprised that Kenny G has outsold Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and all the rest of the excellent bands from Washington. I guess he's been doing it for 45 years...
