Was edged out by John Taylor. Otherwise, you could have added them to your list. Lead guitarist was a EE at MIT. for him, writing new material included designing new electronic toys to play with sounds. And another escapee from Ohio. Ottawa Hills near Toledo.

I thought Wiz representing North Dakota was probably the most random and unexpected out of all 50 options.

I would like to see a Map representing where the artists were 'raised' or the state they were in when they first began making music, it would be a better reflection of the relationship between their 'art' and 'place'

As bad as it makes me look, I was partially serious.

I went to Spotify and it all clicked and I know plenty of his stuff but a few of thsoe songs I thought were other people...I wasn't sure for a minute.  I feel enough shame for the week.  I like to think of myself as a relatively big music guy, as well, so I'll work on the classics portion of my knowledge.

However, some of these are hilariously random.

Maine and Howie Day?!  You and Canada Collide, Maine.

Shawn Colvin S. Dakota?!  Hey guys, 1996 called.

Kansas and....Kansas!  Way to be original guys!

Maneheim Steamroller, Nebraska?!  I love them mroe than most for Xmas music but that's 25 days of music a year!  I know y'all ain't listening to their Fresh Aire stuff.

I'm too lazy to get it right, but there's a larger story here about nature vs. nuture, in which where the two cannot be separated, but nuture is probably more important. Or something like that.
