OT - Best Burger In Each State

Submitted by Moe on

Came across this list on Yahoo today.  No big surprise as Blimpy Burger was the vote for Michigan.  As a Chicago resident, I was happy to see Au Cheval make the list for Illinois as that burger is to die for.  And lastly, the best burger I ever had made the cut, at Parlour in Minneapolis.  So board, did the list do your state justice?

or are we talking individual restaurants? Because no one/few will have heard of the many, many upscale places that make great burgers. . . across the country whereas chain burgers. . . In the latter category, I would say that Burger Phi makes the best chain burger I have had:

And it's a place that you don't feel diminished spending an hour in.

OHIO

Wrong. Just wrong. The best burger in Ohio is this one at Bier Markt (Bar Cento) on West 25th Street in Cleveland. I forget the name of it, but damn it is amazing.

I can testify about the NC representative. Johnsons in Siler City is a weird place that is only open at select times during the week. Sometimes the old man shuts her down with the line out of the door at 12pm. Having to go to Siler City is a drag in and of itself, but that cheeseburger "all the way" is the truth.

My favorite burger vote changes depending on the nature of the craving and the experience on a given day. Top places screw up the order now and then, too. At the moment Gibson's burger is my craving.

Edzo's (Lincoln Park) was never in the running and now it's no longer there. I feel Butcher and The Burger deserves near-top consideration although their fries are lame.

I also think LTH Forum and GreaseFreak ratings tend to be accurate, although LTH perspective has become focused on the 'burbs and I live downtown.  GreaseFreak:  http://www.greasefreak.com/

For reference, "Little Three Happiness," a Chinatown restaurant where the forum members met initially, is namesake for LTH Forums, a site dedicated to Chicago foodies. Well worth a visit for local recommendations and more:  http://www.lthforum.com. As noted above, site emphasis has shifted somewhat to restaurants in the Chicago 'burbs. The site is under relative new management however.

The Gibson's burger I am now craving is this one:
"The 'Sandwich King' of Hamburgers (2013 Peoples Choice, Burger Hop Award Winner) Crispy Cherry Peppers, Jalapeno Havarti Cheese & Spicy Mayo - $14.00. It has a unique, rich gourmet taste and beefy-ness about it. Cue Ferris Bueller and Abe Frohmann, "sausage king."

In any event we in downtown Chicago are not exactly lacking food options.

The best burger I've had in Indiana was at Triple XXX in West Lafayette. In the northwest part of the state, Miner-Dunn in Highland and Schoop's  are very good.

At the flat top behind the bar and has a dollop of the hot mustard.  Some others to consider.

. Spike' s in Grayling, Ray' s in Reading (Mi), and back in the day... the Charlie Brown at Diamond Jim Brady's on Seven Mile was worth the hype.

My favorite place to get a burger is Freddy's Tavern in Mount Pleasant. The bar doesn't look like a place with great food, but the burgers there are awesome.

They said, "Tommy’s regular cheeseburger could likely compete for best in a lot of other, bigger states as well."

Well Alaska IS the biggest state.  I kinda stopped reading after that.

Alaska is better known for seafood anway.

A lot of places make amazing burgers, but nobody tops a $4.50 Shake Shake or In-N-Out burger. Many of the pubs and restaurants want $10-15 and it's either too big or they monkey with it too much.
