OT - Baby Seal U, women's olympic hockey style

Submitted by TTUwolverine on
Well, after one period, team USA has a 5-0 lead on China. I'm putting the over/under of total points for the US at 13, as I think they'll go easy on them in the 3rd. Anyone else watching or am I just way more bored than everyone else?

That's nothing, Canada beat Slovakia 18-0 yesterday. If I could figure out where it is, I'd watch it. EDIT: It's on USA. Warning, do not look for any Olympic streams on JTV or Ustream, as I overheard last night watching Montreal and Philadelphia that anyone who puts one up is getting an automatic ban.

When I think hockey (of any gender) I DO NOT think China. Don't you have to qualify for the Olympics?

If I'm not mistaken, Canada and the U.S. are the only two countries that have had any kind of women's hockey program for any more than 15 years. I guess you can say this has caused some monstrous parity issues... Almost any game that is Canada or U.S. v. country X is probably going to have a score kind of like that. Russia puts up a fight every once in awhile, but by and large, the competition is a bit of a joke.

So who wins the Gold... USA or Canada? After carefully analyzing the two teams using everything I know about women's hockey, I predict... CANADA! Why you ask? The coin I just flipped landed tails.

I am out of town for work and bored out of my mind so yes I am switching back and forth between USA and NBC while simultaneously hitting refresh every few minutes on mgoblog to see if anything new has been posted. What a life. Anyway, from the almighty wikipedia... The top six teams in the IIHF Women's World Ranking after the 2008 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships received automatic berths. Teams ranked 13th and below were divided into two groups for a first qualification round in September 2008. The two group winners advanced to the second qualification round, where the teams ranked seventh through twelfth joined them.

i was wondering peoples preference on how to post olympic discussion on the blog here. start a thread for particularly interesting events or should there be an open thread every now and then for the olympics as a whole. not sure how people will feel about three OT posts spaced out over the course of a few hours. post whenever? thoughts?

You know you can gamble on those games. Canada was -11.5 yesterday USA was -9 today. Both easy covers. Canada is -9.5 tomorrow vs the Swiss......i dont know what we are all waiting for. Its time to jump on the bandwagon, maybe?
