The deal still awaits approval from ASU president, Michael Crow.

This seems like a done deal.

Anderson got a contract extension to 2019.

Michael Crow (ASU President) & Ray Anderson (sports agent & ASU AD)

at least Lovie Smith coached for a few years in college and stayed in the game. It doesn't look like Illinois is going to work out for him, but it's not like he took a studio job and then decided to be a figure head. Herm Edwards is essentially Joe Paterno the last 10 years of his career (coaching wise, not child sex abuse scandal wise).

Meh. I hear you, but the similarites are almost non-existant:

-Paterno may not have been involved, but he was at least around the college game. Edwards was doing TV shows.

-Even if both defer to their assitants, Paterno picked his assistants. Edwards inherited them.

-Paterno more or less reached the top of the game and then rode it out. Edwards has literally no accomplishments.

-Paterno...need I say more??

I agree man. U never knoe until u try. I am more curious to see how his attitude works with younger players. He has been around the NFL so long it might take him some time to adjust to these younger players. Also I don't think the Lovie Smith bashing is really fair. I mean he is coaching at Illinois so what do you honestly expect? He could build them back up u never know. Also ASU has some good players on their team and they always land really good JUCO players.

The best advice I've ever heard from a famous person on TV was from Herm - it was "don't hit send" on tweets/texts/messages from trolls/detractors. Type out the message to let it out, then delete and don't hit send.

Surreal to say the least. Maybe he does a good job. Then again the chances are not good and IMO this hire is clown show stuff. Then again who cares about asu anyways. It would be more fun if he was hired by osu, but I could'nt hate on Herm like I do Meyer. Taking Meyer down is much more fun. Oh ya I forgot we have to get by that officiating thing.

The best thing about this move, even more than its transparent idiocy, is I don't have to hear Herm Edwards's "analysis" on Sundays.  Based on that alone, I approve wholeheartedly.

ASU has a new head coach whose primary attributes are the ability to speak loudly and glower.  Hired by an AD who used to be Edwards's agent?  Who has no meaningful contacts in the recruiting world?

Good luck with that, Sun Devils.  Good luck.

It's about why he's being offered the job.  I'm guessing he's making more money at ASU, so it makes sense he would take it (and coaching football reasons).  But why in the world would anyone think this was a good idea to hire him?  So many better candidates/coordinators out there that would take the job....
