OT: Another player arrested for assault at Tennessee
Stealing a line from Steve Spurrier, you can't spell "assault" without "UT." All jokes aside, there is a huge sex assault federal lawsuit filed against the university with the Peyton Manning allegations resurfacing as well, and one of their top JC recruits gets arrested for aggravated assault before he probably had even finished unpacking.
Not to mention one of their seniors from this past season's team was just recently arrested in a child sex sting:

As someone who lived in Knoxville during the Manning/Fulmer years I'm not suprised by this one bit. I'm just suprised it took this long to be noticed nationally. That school as well as it's diehard fans and local authorities are pure crap.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:29 PM ^
Even living in Nashville and having to put up wiith their insatiable fans has been awful.

Also, I think this thread is as much about communities covering up so there aren't arrests in the first place.

Community cover up is very much a thing in Knoxville.

BRING BACK THE FULMER CUP!
February 18th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
This is very unfortunate for all parties involved and regardless of what school it happens at. 2 lives can be altered by events like this if they turn out to be true. Truly, thoughts and prayers.
February 18th, 2016 at 1:03 PM ^
for serious use of "thoughts and prayers".
/sorry EGJ, I've never had to do that to you before.

You've morphed from board incendiary to mere tasteless (if often interesting or clever) jokester... now you're the referee?

It's the job of the legal system to punish criminals: not the NCAA. Committing sexual assault doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage on the field or in recruiting. The Peyton Manning era is "old news" and well beyond any statute of limitations.
The best we can hope for is for criminals to be punished, victims to find remedy in civil court and UT to suffer a rather large "hit" on their reputation.
If they are providing an environment that enables such behavior, the school will get rid of the people doing it because it will cost them too much money down the road if they don't.
February 18th, 2016 at 1:57 PM ^
as I always thought the PSU issue was one for the criminal system. My feelings have changed however. If the academic or athletic wings of as school do anything to cover these activities up at the expense of justice for the victims of crimes then yeah, I think the NCAA has a role as well.

is odd how the media works. Please understand, I am not saying that this is not a serious matter as I am sure that it is as was the matter with Manning. But it is just odd.
Peyton Manning wins the Superbowl-Peyton Manning seen as a good ole boy - Articles resurface regarding a 20 year alleged assault - Questions result about whether Peyton Manning is a good ole boy - Allegations also surface at Tennesee regarding new issues - New allegations will be tied into the Manning story and whether this is a systemic issue at Tennessee.
This will then transition into the atmosphere at not just Tennessee, but college athletics in general - Whether or not this kind of things happens too much or all the time - By next Sunday, there will be an Outside the Lines involving sexism in sports and whether sports in fact promotes sexism and encourages sexual assault.
In this day and age, once the snowball gets rolling there will be no stopping it.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:44 PM ^
with Manning's pending retirement. Unannounced, but given his health and age there is a lot of speculation.
He is not longer behind The Shield.
February 18th, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
(And I am not sure why I am getting negged. I don't think my post was the least bit disrespectful to anybody, was just commentary on the modern media. Jeez people).
EDIT - IMPORTANT EDIT - I did not see the second story relating to the child sex allegations when I wrote my first post, only clicked on the first link. This renders my first post borderline inappropriate and really inapplicable. My bad. Please accept my apology and thoughts and prayers go out to everybody.
February 18th, 2016 at 5:33 PM ^
You didn't post anything inappropriate. This issue causes a lot of thin-skinned people to overreact and become violently hysterical or hysterically violent.
And if you don't join the lynch mob, you become a target.

Greg Sankey's priorities in the correct order.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
Sankey doesn't care just as long as he has a team win the whole thing, he doesn't care what the other 13 schools do. He cares more about Harbaugh than he does about Vols players.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
It absolutely will impact his priorities. Stopping Harbaugh from coming to Florida will be an even higher priority, and the building crisis at Tennessee will be swept even farther under the rug. Gotta protect the brand!
February 18th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
Wow, the incidence of women making things up to destroy innocent athletes' lives at UT is way up this year! [Please note sarcasm...]
February 18th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
Hey hey hey. We literally do not have all the facts, so we're incapable of coming to an informal conclusion. Please close your eyes and put your fingers back in your ears.
February 18th, 2016 at 1:01 PM ^
Agreed. Rapists and the like need to start doing these crimes in front of large audiences, so that there can be irrefutible evidence they are happening. Until then, I will remain skeptical and blame the victims...

is that if you don't want student athletes to be involved in assaults, then maybe the University of Tennesee shouln't admit students.
Plenty of blame to go around.
February 18th, 2016 at 12:57 PM ^
I remember seeing a picture of Donnie Corley on a visit to Tennessee called Orange Carpet Day for their top recruits. There were some co-ed girls present in the picture that he took (I can't find it ATM) and looking back that just seems like a really bad idea..
I have no idea if those particular girls were included in the rest of the visit by showing the recruits around campus or something like that but perhaps that's where some of the entitlement came from? Maybe girls were the expectation for some of these guys. Who knows. Neg my speculation.

That this segment is entitled Beasts of the Southern Wild is the least funny thing about it, and even that's pretty damned great.

That Mack Crowder child sex thing is super creepy and disturbing, especially since Mack Crowder himself is a baby-faced dude who looks like a 12 year-old's head attached to a 23 year-old man's body.

As a father of three, that kind of thing gives me nightmares. It also makes me want to take a flamethrower to anyone who would try to solicit a child for such purposes.
The internet is a curse every bit as much as it is a blessing.
